I will be dropping my fuel tank to get access to a bolt hole in the frame member. Is there anything I should know before I go about it? I have looked at it and best that I can see is that there is one electrical connector to remove and about 4-5 hoses including the fuel fill hose.

Looks fairly straight forward. Any advice? How heavy is it with my fuel gauge on empty? Any hidden gotchas?

Thanks

Phil

Shouldn't be too hard since you have low fuel in it. That is obviously the best time to do it and it won't weight that much. I used a forklift, unbolted the straps and carefully lowered it down just enought to weld in my brackets for my custom traction bars. I never disconnected any wires or pulled any hoses just made sure there wasn't any unnecessary stress on the lines or wires. I tried getting the hoses off but I couldn't get the cap on top of the tank off so I just lowered it enough to get in to do my work. Easy job, just make sure you have someone there to help.

My son can take the tank off in ten minutes now. He had a problem with the harness connector from the sending unit to the guage. Finally traced it down to the second inline connnector above the tank.

He says pulling it off is a piece of cake. Just watch to be sure you don't put any stress on the wiring harness. He says that is the voice of experience :D

Great, thanks for the feedback. Since I will have the tank off are there any after market goodies that I should consider adding? Larger tank? etc...

Thanks

Phil

To take the tank off remove the wiring harness and the two quick dissconnect fuel lines and the filler hose then the 2 15mm nuts and drop her out, easy getting it back up is a little harder with the fuel rolling back and forth. Easy task if it's empty :)

Phil, my truck already had a 50 gallon bed tank installed when I bought last fall. I really like having the option to be selective as to the price I pay for fuel.
