I think I recall a TSB discussed on this site that involved putting shorter axle spacers on the rear end to lower the overall height at the tail gate. I can't find it. Or I'm I just getting old and think that I recall it?

Are you talking a 2wd? If so lose the spacers, I did that on my '01 with no ill effect. Just need to have a shop bend you a new pair of U-bolts that are the right length, usually doesn't cost more than $20 or so.

I ran into this problem a few years ago on a 97 4x4 3500. After installing a rear spring pack that would hold the truck up, the custoer wanted it to ride more level loaded. We set the block up in the end mill and machined the bottom off 2 inches. (You want to take it off the bottom so the bumpstop is the correct distance. ) We trimmed the center pin down, reinstalled it, and the truck is still running, and the customer loves it. I would think a capable machine shop would do this for @ $100-150.....

Ironically, he purchased an '07(6. 7) to replace it, and I was first in line to purchase the truck, (with 127K on it!!) but after he drove the '07 for 3 months, he decided to keep the 97, which I made some power upgrades on, and he sold the '07!! Dang it!!

Talked with Larry at Suspension MAXX and he is putting together a kit for me. Machined blocks and shorter U-Bolts. Should have them next week sometime.
