Need to vent?

I have something in the 75K mileage range and have never replaced the crankcase vent filter. Does this thing really ever need to be changed?
What can go wrong with it as long as the gasses are still coming out of the draft tube?

AFAIK, it's just an oil separator and requires no maintenance.

It's an empty plastic box. Waste of time taking it off and cleaning it as there is nothing in it, I saw Genos sells new ones. Not sure why.

That's what I thought - an empty plastic box for $50. I just can't see what could go wrong with one.
