I have a 2006 Mega Cab with the 273 transfer case and bought a transfer case skid plate online but it did not come with directions. It also came with 4 bolts. I have been lying under the truck for half an hour and can't seem to figure out how it attaches. Do I need additional parts?

This is what I got: body hardware, console, shifter trim, skid plate MEGA CAB, TRANSFER CASE MODEL 273

Item #3 in this pic

Any help appreciated.

I did some more digging and found I may need a crossmember. So I ordered that. Still would like some diagrams, pics, or instructions.

Thanks

The cross member will need 4 bolts also. It goes across right under the Cat. The bolts go in from the outside of the frame rail

My truck came with one but it was missing when I bought it. The cross member was still there. I ordered the plate and mounting bolts from Dodge but no matter which way I tried it the bolt holes just didn't line up. I ended up using only 3 bolts to mount it. Shad

The plate comes with 6 holes, are you sure you used the correct ones?

The first time i removed mine, i couldn't get it to line up, i was using the wrong holes, Monte,

I have ordered the cross member. Once it gets here I will re-attempt to install. Thanks for the help. Will take pics and let you know how it turns out.

I got the crossmember today. Installation was simple. Thanks for the pics - helped me orient the skid plate. 8 screws and 10 mins and it is installed. Very easy mod and now my severe duty filter is protected. Pics below.

I just ordered these parts too for my 2005 and tried to install them today. The crossmember fits, but the skid plate will not go on. The holes on the skid plate do not align with the holes on the crossmember that supports the transmission and transfercase.

I ended up having to drill a hole to get it to fit. Three holes on the cross members lined up perfectly with the skid plate but the last hole wasn't there. Instead there was a dimple in the cross member that lined up perfectly, which looked like it just needed to me drilled. So I drilled it and it all worked perfectly.

One note though. I attempted to tighten the bolts holding the cross member to the frame to the instructed 40 ft/lbs and nearly stripped the threads. I could barely get to 30 ft/lbs without it feeling like it was about to let loose. 25 ft/lbs would have been better. They all feel like they're weakened now since I took them so close to stripping.
