Need to locate a reliable transmission shop in Central Texas. I'm in Killeen on business for the day and headed back through Temple/ I-35 later in the day.

Transmission is not downshifting to 1st gear at the stoplight. It will manually downshift into L. It is not throwing any codes. Trans temp seems to be heating up much more than normal, but still within safe zone (good thing I installed the double-deep transmission pan from Geno's)!

Did a search and based on earlier threads, it sounds like it could be the speed sensor, governor, and/or solenoid. However, I have no way to check this and do not have expertise with the auto trannies.

Think that I can limp it out to the interstate (I-35) and then should be OK as it will be in OD, but would like to get the contact info for a transmission shop who could fix this. I don't see anyone nearby listed in the TDR-TC.

Appreciate any help, guys!

I tend to agree with your diagnosis. I had to remove the speed sensor on mine a while back and wash off some dirty grit. Also installed a new one once when the clean job didn't work.

Sorry on where to take it, haven't been down your way for over 30 years.
