need some opinions on upgrading my daily driver/work rig. its a 00 24v, 2500, QC, LB, 5spd, 4x4, (it will have the 4. 5 Sj lift and 315's very soon). motor is completely stock w/ 138K orig miles. only upgrades are gauges, muffler delete, and AFE Pro Guard 7 Mega Cannon. truck use will be 75% on-road, 25% off-road w/ the ocassional quad trailer pulling, but no 5th's (yet). id like it to keep its relaibilty and still get good MPG (as good as possible anyway). id like to see 300-350 HP. i was thinking get the hypertech PP III (up to 66 HP, 175 TQ, plus it'll fix my odometer and it'll read codes) and stage II (80 HP) injectors. *i know ill need a clutch in the future* what are your opinions? i figure i could get the programmer for 300. and injectors for 500. seems to me to be the best bang for the buck for an extra 100-150 horses. what do you think? TIA Oo.

Check out the TDR classifieds...

An Edge EZ and a set of Stage 2 injectors will be a real nice set-up.

See my signature for the EZ/DD2 setup results. Based on my experience, the clutch can live with the EZ, but mine gave up when I added the DD2's in conjunction with the EZ. Since you have a 5 speed, YMMV! ;)

'Tis a slippery slope you're starting down, my friend! :D

programmer vs edge ez??

isnt there purpoosed HP/TQ gains pretty much the same? big price difference in price--and the programmer can read codes and change the odometer for tire size increases. from what ive read--the hypertech is more bang for the buck. opinions ????? Oo.

Unless someone proves differently to me, the dynamometer has pretty well separated the claims from reality. Ask someone to post their results with a "supertuner" (regardless of brand) and DD2s. ;)

I agree, I have read nothing but bad things with the Supertuner when it comes to our trucks. They work better with the Ford and Chevy.

I'm all ears on this hypertech thing. I'm not looking to buy one ... but it does seem to have its advantages. I like that it can read and clear codes, calibrate speedometer for tire size. But as for reprogramming the ECM, that seems a bit risky to me.

If I could get it to record my stock ECM, then replace the ECM with a used one (while hypertech not hooked up), download my stock ECM settings to the used ECM and change the settings via hypertech and go from there, then I might consider it.

I don't know if that is even possible (save your stock setting, put it on a back-up ECM and modify the back-up ECM settings), but I'm guessing that it is not possible. If so, I think that would effect Marco marketability ... i. e. people may possibly prefer the hypertech to the CaTCHER.

Questions, comments, suggestions, and concerns all welcome.

I have the Superchips tuner & for now it will do, until I can afford a clutch. I have an EZ waiting in the garage (it didn't cost me anything, & I don't want to push my luck).

Initially I had trouble with the tuner, the truck wouldn't return back to the stock program. It took 6 weeks at Superchips & now it works just fine.

I purchased the tuner to reprogram the gear/tire size, because I did both. I changed from 3. 54 to 4. 10 gears & run 295/75/16 BFG's. I found that my computer re-learned by itself. It's about 1 mph off. So I haven't used that feature.
