Need upholstery help - center console!

I've finished the leather upholstery installation except for the center console - what a bag of worms! The center console takes longer than all the seats put together! I've got most of it done, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the plastic storage compartment out of the snfer seatback from the storage bin. I can't replace the upholstery on the seat back until I get the plastic storage compartment out of it. help!!! :{

If it's the plastic lid liner your yalking about it just pops out. Get a plastic wedge under a corner to get it started, credit card is to thin.

I've been trying! Will try again! It's the plastic liner that holds a laptop or whatever and has fold-down dividers in the seatback. The one with the power outlet in it.

OK, I just pried like crazy with no results. . What now?

Tried again - cracked something!

I attempted to remove that once and stopped because I concluded that it was bolted in place in the superstructure of the console BEFORE the factory upholstery was sewn up around it. Therefore to remove it you'd have to cut away the factory upholstery. I'm not sure if I'm correct or not...

I figured it out. The upholstery is stuffed into a groove at the top edge of the bin. I pulled it out with a pair of pliers. The replacement upholsetry wouldn't snap into the groove, so I used gel super glue to hold it in. The console seats are leather now!

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone without considerable upholstery experience - particluarly regarding the center console. The seats took one afternoon. The console took two days!

JSimpson, What seat covering material did you start off with?

I bought the truck with 11,000 miles on it. It' an SLT with cloth interior. Because the previous owner is a heavy smoker, I bought a leather kit from an e-Bay seller out of Boca Raton for around $400. Nice leather.
