The injection pump on my 93 D250 LE 2WD daily driver (290,00+ miles) has started a slow drip,,,looks like it is coming from around the throttle linkage.
The truck is still driving, but leaks a small (6" dia. or so) stain in the drive over the weekend.
I've been to two shops in the Raleigh, NC area. Both declined to try and rebuild it, and both said the part was no longer available. It seems that when I had it in the dealer's shop about 15 years ago, the pump was replaced under warranty with a reman unit. Didn't realize that until I took a pic of the tag on the pump!
The dealer I bought the truck from in '92 was closed down by Chrysler/Dodge last year.
I'm looking for a reliable place to purchase a pump (and/or have it rebuilt) and have it installed. I don't have facilities (or skills) to do this R&R myself.
I also need to do a re-build or replacement of the power steering pump.
I recently installed myself a Borgeson Steering shaft... that took out a LOT of play in the steering, but I'm also trying to find a steering box (rack & Piston?? I was told).
AND, I am looking for front coils, upper/lower ball joints, and control arm bushings.
It seems from reading the threads, that I should get the "Severe Duty" 7226s front coils to pull the front end up to where it should be and to keep the weight load from sagging the springs too much again. Moog springs/ball joints probably.
Is this a correct assumption?? My brother-in-law and I can handle the suspension work in his farm garage in Western North Carolina.
Lots of questions, and a lot of work to be done!
All advice appreciated.

The front springs are the same up to 93. The Moog 7226s are good springs. I did mine over a year ago and the truck sits nice. I still have 3-4" between the tire and the wheel well.

As for the pump, it sounds like you can get away with a reseal of the top. Not a bad job really. I'd get the complete seal kit, then you have everything anyways. 1st, take the time to see if the throttle shaft has any play side to side, if so, you might better get it done, it will need a new bushing for the shaft. They usually epoxy it in. Otherwise it can be done with a little research here.

Good luck!

i have a gear boh out of my 90 it replaced my old 1 long ago. i sent the truck to the crusher but kept some parts like the stearing gear and clutch and some other stuff that was hanging on the engine wen i sold the engine trans and rearend

Thanks for the info guys. I do have a little 'wobble' in the throttle shaft, AND the linkage has started wearing done the rod that it connects to.
Unfortunately, I have no place at all to tear this down, and do it myself. Afraid the little lady wouldn't like me doing this on the dining room table!
I'm searching for a reliable shop to do it for me, with no luck so far. I'm in the Raleigh, NC area.
I've contacted a few places about a new/rebuilt steering box, No replies yet.
Likewise on the power steering pump.
I DO have anopther question. How can I tell if I have a standard or heavy duty suspension? I though all the D-250 with the Cummins were heavy duty.
I had a supplier tell me I had a standard. The suspension parts are different for the two.
Is there a clue in the VIN?

Hey Rich,

Others on this group will know for sure, but my bet is HD. Actually, any time I have ordered parts for the front of my '89 D250, I've told them it's a 350 in order to get the right parts. Some parts houses do not have a good enough parts invertory program to link the 5. 9 Cummins option with the HD suspension.

You're correct that all of the Cummins trucks are HD. The 250 and 350 share the same front springs when the Cummins is installed, 350 has stiffer rear springs.

Thanks. That was my thought too. Just had a major setback... lower ball joint broke (driver's side) on the way to pick up my daughter this afternoon. . IN downtown Raleigh, in the after=school traffic... IN the rain. Had to call AAA+ and get a rollback to take it to a shop. I guess those springs/ball joints/shocks and bushings will get put in earlier than I thought... and at slightly higher cost than doing it myself!
What a way to start the year.

Did you talk to a Cummins dealer about working on your pump? They should have the ability to remove, reseal, and reinstall your VE.

Sorry, I can't help with the steering... but did you call Borgeson to see if they have a new steering setup like they do for the new 4 bys?
