My mini project...

Hi everyone,

I'm a new convert with a 2013 Laramie Megacab I got to tow a travel trailer. My trailer tire pressure monitor system won't work well without an external antenna, and also want to put a ham radio transceiver in the driver side storage compartment behind the rear seat. I can run the TPMS and ham radio antenna cables in through a plugged hole in the floor under the passenger side storage compartment.

I want to run several small cables from the rear up to the console - the TPMS antenna cable, a remote control cable and an audio cable for the radio. In my previous (F150) truck I ran them under the carpet and they popped out inside the console. The cross members for the rear seat make that approach difficult if not impossible.

The Ram 2-way radio install procedure says to run them in a tunnel under the door threshold so I think I need to pull off the rubber door seal surround and pull up the plastic door sill. Are there any special tools required to pop the door sill, or is it just tabs in slots in the body? Anybody have a link to the procedure to pull the door sill and the trim panel between the door and the rear of the truck?

Thanks,

Al

Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the retaining tabs of the sill trim panel (1) from the retainer clips in the rear door sill and remove the trim panel.

The door sill trims come out really easily with a trim stick or even just giving it a firm tug with your fingertips. You can then guide your wires through the cable gutter which is built into the edge of the carpet, with either some patience or a wire coathanger (but bend the tip over so you don't gouge the harness). BUT, when you go to put the door sill trims back in, make sure the little metal clip which sits around each plastic tab, is in the right place - ie. pointing down. They can get dislodged, and in particular can rotate 90 degrees so they LOOK right but aren't. You can tell this has happened when you are trying to get the trim back in and despite firm thumping it won't clip in convincingly. In fact you're just mashing the clip and tab slightly each time you thump it. Fortunately, they're quite tolerant of this sort of abuse so once you realise and pull it out again and realign the clip, they still go in properly despite by now being a bit mangled. Ask me how I know ...

More suggestions: When you're bringing the wires up under the rear seat of your megacab, check the seat movements in all configurations to make sure they won't get crimped. There's heaps of room if you find the right place. Put some flexible conduit around the cables to keep them safe, once they're out of the sill gutter, remembering that when the seat's up they may be exposed to under-seat cargo sliding around.

Thanks, both of you. I tried pulling the sill cap off but was afraid of breaking something. I presume the slots the clips fit into are on the top of the door sill so i just pull up, right? Since you mentioned it i have a trim stick. I don't remember why but i have one. Ill give that a try.

Main direction is up. The front sill in particular hooks into the A pillar trim as well so there's some lateral movement too. It's reasonably supple and strong plastic - don't go crazy, but you don't have to be too fearful of breaking it.
