Yesterday morning got in truck, waited for cycle of all icons, turned on the key and engine fired up normally. All functions on gauges looked normal, but when I put it in "R" and started to back slowly out of the garage, it felt like it was going to die and was "missing". Stopped and put in "D" and it started surging and would not take fuel, as if in limp mode.

I also experienced this problem once before when truck had about 8,000 miles on it. At that time I simply turned off the key and restarted and it has run fine ever since. This time I tried the same thing about five or six times with no effect. Finally, turned off engine and popped the hood to see if anything could be seen loose or screwed up. After starting up again 5 or 6 minutes later, it ran fine and hasn't missed a lick for over 125 miles of mixed driving... . truck now has 36,550 miles with all flashes up to date..... am planning on things stating to fall off real soon..... Oh yes, one other thing, when running bad, it seemed like I could hear a louder pinging than usual, sort of like a start up on a cold morning... ..... all service is up to date so that shouldn't be a problem... ... ... ..... my thoughts... ... possible stuck injector ????

We don't know where you live or what your early morning temperatures are. Were you in a hurry and perhaps skipped the grid heater cycle and started before it warmed the intake air?

I'm assuming you are familiar with the effect the grid heaters have on the electrical system? The very high current draw cycling on and off again for a minute or so in cooler weather loads the alternator and also the engine momentarily reducing idle speed until the ECM compensates and increases idle speed.

Warm Weather

Sorry... ... ... ... don't know what happened to my profile on here, but I'm in Louisiana and the ambient temp was about 90 degrees at the time and there was nothing out of the norm as to how I always start the engine..... Have been driving around since the first post and after approx. 50 miles again, nothing else has cropped up.

Sorry, I"m clueless then. The grid heaters don't cycle on when temp is that high.

How are your fuel and air filters? If recently changed sometimes a new fuel filter can cause a problem. Or if recently changed and not properly tightened or bad O ring can leak.

All filters are up to date. The best description of the problem by the way, is like a gasoline engine that has "jumped time"... ... ..... didn't mention on any of my posts, but I checked the "3-key" trick and no codes of any kind came up.
