I am wanting to put a sub in my truck and I am getting blown away by what some people want to charge to build a box to go under the seat. I have both a 10" and a 12" sub available to do this with. What have any of you done to facilitate this and if so do you have pics?

I believe you can buy a sheet of MDF for $20-25 at your local Lowe's or Home Depot. That would be plenty to enclose one subwoofer, but yes buying a "GOOD" pre-built box is definately not cheap. :rolleyes: :{

That's why we're gonna build one for mine... ... . eventually. :rolleyes:

Mine sits in the center, between the front & back seats, and looks like a cupholder on the top. Very nice, dosn't attract the wrong kind of attention. Oh, and it holds my Alpine Type R 12" very well.

Yep....

Here My little tweeters ...

When Ever my truck transforms from my toy to the family vehical I have Just one quick disconnect and I pull it out and set it in the garage ... takes a whole 30 Seconds

This Is my set up... .

Before building a BOX

Call Fosgate and talk to an RF TECh

tell them what your looking to spend and they will hook you up ... they will tell you the exact Dimentions to build for your speekers ... . after you have the dimentions There is a car Audio site some where on the net just do a search for Speaker Box caculator or something like that ... there you will find a handy on line thingy where you can play with diffrnet size boxes and it caculates the Volume for ya ... remember tho the bottom has to be So big that the box dont fall over and the Face of the box needs enough room for the speaker and a couple inches all the way around so if your getting 12's go atleast 16"tall and 31" wide and just get the bottom as big as you can for the right Volume ... . DO NOT PORT THE BOX sealed inclosures sound way better and with a ported box you will have to have the port tube exact for it not to distort or just sound bad in general... . ported boxes have LAG between beats they hold out the beat too long and muffle the sound under a roar... sealed enclosures POUND QUICK AND HARD it will make your pine tree fressener bounch ... as well as give you CLEAR sound and the capibillity to listen to all types of music and still sound top notch... . use MDF as stock to build your box and use 1 bag polyfill for every 1 Cubic foot of area ... you can add and remove the fill to get the exact sound your looking for .

Milehigh - I got one of the center seat units from the guy on ebay for my '03 and am not overly pleased with it. The upholstery matches perfectly and he put a divider in so it would work with my 10" woofer. Sounds okay but it is quite a bit higher then the stock seat and the armrest doesn't swing up worth a darn. It is almost impossible for someone to sit in the middle seat now. If he had made it lower instead of putting a divider in it, and made it so that the arm rest would swing up, then I'd be a happy camper.

I have the box from e-bay, very well made & it gave me just the fill I was looking for with a 10" & I still have a flat floor in the back for securing stuff inside the cab.

Big thumbs up to the JL Stealth Box for the 2nd Gens!!! (once you put a good sub in them). The 12" that come stock will be enough for "most" people. It's a great tight sounding box. It was enough for me to touch 138dba on the RTA, and to sustain 131dba. And yes, to those who wonder, I "dyno test" speakers. You can call me a nerd, but please put Dr. in front of that :) That is all, for now.

I have that 12" center seat box from E-bay. It does sound real good, but I wouldn't call it a stock appearing replacement. It is a rectangle. A very squared off front corner, the fabric is a lot lighter color than by Agate 2002 interior (I sent numerous pictures and the color codes with the order).

I knew ahead of time that it would sit up over 2 inches higher, and certainly does. Makes my six-speed shift knob almost disappear in front of the console. No chance of fitting a Geno's cup smoothie on it, dam. It also leaves a pretty good gap between it and each seat.

Its great for the price, $150. I just thought I would share some of the real world differences. Would I do it again? Yea, but the JL stealthbox uses your factory seat cover which guarantees it looks stock. And the cover is real easy to change. i would think about it a little harder if I had seen how it really looks.

P. S. the 10" box sits lower and would hide a lot of the above issues.

Just FYI, the JL Box is the exact (+/- 1% ;) ) of the orignal center seat, no one to date has been able to tell there is a box there without looking underneath.
