Long-Term RASP Pump Use and Pressure Decline

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) NV4500 Amsoil 75w-90 Series 2000

Any tips on reinstalling NV4500 back in my '99 2 w/d in my driveway on your back??? I shipped it to Standard Gear and Trans for rebuild and its now sitting on my trans jack for last 2 days trying to wiggle it in. My son put new pilot bearing in flywheel which was installed and I borrowed actual input shaft loaned to me by Joe Donnelly (thnaks Joe) to line clutch back up. And from searching previous posts I installed 2 - 1/2" bolts with heads cut off top right and bottom left to help align trans. Right now its about 1 and 1/32" out from face of bell housing. I know the clutch arm is on the trans bearing surface as I can slide it back and forth. Also, we are spinning the driveshaft in gear and we have not had spine contact yet as there is no resistance. Also purchased a video inspection camera to try and see whats going on thru the clutch arm hole but all I see is clutch fingers. The trans jack has several adjustments for angle and I have measured trans face to bellhousing face to make sure we are "square" to no avail. It would help if we were on a lift but we're not. We will continue to avoid any mechanical means of force. My 27 year old son has been grabbing the tail shaft and wiggling and trying to put forward pressure along with me up forward doing the same to no avail. I guess we'll try removing bell housing and mount to trans to try that method?? Appreciate any tips. I guess my arms are just too weanie to push it in.

You probably already have done this, but this question needs to be asked. Did you test fit the pilot bearing to the transmission input shaft and test fit the new clutch disc to the input shaft splines before attempting to install the transmission?

I use 4 bolts instead of the 2 you mention and it helps a lot. Usually the bottom 2 then the 3rd set up. On your back it’s tough, but doable for sure. Be patient and good luck!

If you try to put it in with the bell housing on the transmission it seems to go better. I've done it both ways on the ground and bell housing and transmission bolted together works best. Once you bolt on the pressure plate with line up tool, take your fingers and feel the edge of the pressure plate and disc and see if they feel centered up all around.
