My neighbor just had a totaled 2000 1 ton truck dumped off at his house in hopes to transplant some parts to his 98. He is planning to use the axles, springs, brakes, and the dually bed in hopes to making his 2500 more stable towing his fifth wheel. Sounds like a lot of work to me and I don't know if it will rase his load capacities but I bet it will be the only 2500 dually in the state.

If i had a donor truck i would convert my 2500 to the 3500 rear suspension parts in a heart beat it wouldnt legally change my tow or load rating unless i when thru a state inspection
But i prefer the dual rear wheel setup

The Dually will have a Dana 80 and the 2500 most likely a Dana 70. So drive line will have to come over also if it is the same cab/bed configuration. Or he will have to have the 2500 drive line shortened. SnoKing

British Columbia is the only place that has a law about exceeding manufacturer's door tag ratings that I have seen.

Here is a link to some details.

How big can my pick-up camper or RV trailer be on my ½, ¾, or 1 tonne pickup be? Do I need brakes? Do I need a special driver’s license?

The camper, when loaded on to the pickup or when you tow a trailer behind the pickup, can not exceed the manufacturer “Gross Vehicle Weight Rating” (GVWR) or the “Gross Axle Weight Rating” (GAWR). The ratings can be found on the driver’s side door post."

How do hot-shot haulers fair in BC????

But in a accident it becomes a issue in court and local police can issue a ticket for over weight the dot cant do much because its gotta be a commercial vehicle for them

To issue a ticket there has to be a law against it. Show me a link to the law please. I'm not talking about weight tags which are obviously a DMV thing for revenue. Many states have a fixed price for registration, but here in TX I could license my 3500 for 26,000 pounds (or more) and be legal.

I towed with my 3rd gen 2500 converted to DRW for over 100k miles. Was awesome. Was an afternoon project to swap parts

I had a lengthy conversation with two DOT officers in BC this spring about such load issues and it jives with what the link says for the most part. They said that it comes down to their judgment of the load. If it looks unstable and overloaded they will deal with it but if it looks good and the tires are not past their ratings they usually let it go. I was explaining my situation of being at 10,450 lbs on the rear axle when I have my boat on my truck with the RV hooked up and the door sticker says 9750 lbs. They said I'd be fine as the tires are good for 12,000ish lbs and my truck's stance is as if it's empty.(the rear is a bit higher than the front) I also questioned them on the fact that I added a third axle to my toy hauler trailer and therefore it doesn't match up with the gvw stickers on it as well and they said that the would do a quick visual of the trailer in this case at the workmanship, weights, tires etc. and send me on my way if I was checked out. There isn't an engineering requirement on a private RV like there would be on a commercial unit. Tire ratings are usually king unless things "look" dicy.
The trailer in the picture now had a third axle in front of the other two.

I gotta ask the question... How do you get the boat down???

The rear of the rack lowers hydraulicly and I have ramps under the boat that slide out and a remote control for the winch which rolls the boat back down the ramps to the ground.

This last photo is from my trial run of the unit before I finalized the ramps.
