biodiesel anyone?

BIO Diesel

The only interesting thing I have to say about it is. I've been running homebrew biodiesel for 6000 miles now. I've been burning it in an old vw truck (I know its not a real diesel. ). I figured I would sacrifice this truck to the science project before I burn it in anything else. With the cost of fuel I'm surprised more people on this forum don’t give it try. Maybe they are the same as me and don’t want to chance a CTD with it.

I'd give it a try on my VW if it didn't have an expensive injection pump under the hood...

As far as I'm concerned - VW makes bone fide diesel engines. They have a much better track record than some other diesels out there...

Maybe it's Neil Young. There seems to be no middle ground with Neil, people either love him or hate him. Me, I'm somewhere in between .....

I think it's great! Just as soon as I have convincing proof that biodiesel won't harm 'Buttercup' and it's reliably and cheaply available, I'm going for it!

MTE: I think you're right.

Folks have some pretty strong opinions regarding the era when Neil Young was in his prime. I can't say I blame them...

I used bio crap for the first time last weekend and not by choice but it was there and I needed fuel. The price was more expensive and it was only b5. I hope it works out as we (people in the us) do use a lot of fuel.

The really funny part is that stuff you filled up with is less expensive than what I have been buying at the PDQ on Mineral Pt. Road...

if I could find it local, I'd buy it... and I'm in a suburban setting, so I can't exactly brew up 30-50gal a week. :(

I'm all about biodiesel though!!! good article!

I think fuels like biodiesel will become more and more popular in the next 5-10 years.

We need to start being more innovative & take stuff that is waste or a by-product & turn it into a fuel source.

I'm running B20 in my truck. It's about $0. 10 more per gallon, but it's worth it to me.

Around here we have a young couple running an older ford Diesel on used veggie oil they collect from the resurants here. They collect it, filter it, then dump it in one of the tanks. They say that they always start up and shut down on real diesel but when they get going they throw a valve and continue on there way. They get the used oil for free cause the resturants have to pay to get rid of it. They say the funny part is that the exhaust smells like french fries. :D

Your right about that, but they have been running it for a number of years with no problems (not to say that they are not going to have any). This has also included a trip or two to mexico and back. Just seems like it's a cheap way of running a vehicle providing the seals (as you mentioned ) or other things don't give out.
