I'm looking @ getting nerf bars for my (ordered) Black 03 3500 SLT. I'm trying to decide on black or chome nerf bars (and eventually brush gaurd)... I'd like to go chrome but I'm not sure it it would be worth the additional cost... I'm also not sure how it would wear. I've seen some where the chrome flakes off... Anyway, what are your thoughts? Does anybody have any pics of black trucks with chrome or black nerf bars?

Neither, try the stainless steel bars, they're great. This is the best pic I could find, click my link below to see more. These are 4 years old, and were from my last truck, no rust, no problems. Definatly worth the money.

I've got Westins on my 02 i really like them. Chrome stainless whatever they're shiney. Ive got a pretty nice digital camera so if ya want to email me i can send you some nice pictures.

If you can get a good set of powder coated black bars, go for it. I had to settle for chrome. They are a pain in the a$$ to keep clean.

I have Westin's too. I don't know if mine are the chrome or stainless, but they were $325(I think) and they came with a 5 year warrenty (why I bought them).

They have been on a little over a year and still look great. Just have to rinse them off every once in a while since the 33's give them a good mud bath.

A buddy of mine has a black Sport (2nd Gen) with a black brushguard and chrome nerf bars. Looked sharp. The truck had been ran hard off-road, but held up. My black powder coated nerfs have been ran off-road, gravel, etc. and have chipped and rusted. They need to be painted... again  .

pics would be great... my email address is -- email address removed --

i was actually looking @ the oval westins... they are what prompted me to start this thread. i'm pretty sure they are what i will be going with... just not sure about the color... they don't have the 03 2500/3500 listed on their website though... however, i've heard that 02-03 1500's fit. you just need to drill out one of the mounting holes to make it a little bigger... has anybody installed these on their 03 yet?

And one more.

I also used the Herculiner on the remainder of the rocker panels that the NorthWest Custom SS panels disn't cover.

I got a set of Sumatra 6000 Series made by Go Rhino. They're black, run wheel to wheel, and went on in about 20 minutes with no drilling. Very strong and well made. Ran me $337 from truckperformance.com I personally like the black, but if you live in salty road areas, you might consider the stainless.

Part # GOR6128B. Hope this helps.

(I had Smittybilts on my Durango and liked those as well. )

Go stainless! I think mine are MAAP stainless w/ a lifetime warranty... they can keep the Cummins company while the body crumbles around them.

Go Stainless no matter what brand you buy...

you'll be glad that you did. Line-X or other coatings color matched to the truck are great and you don't have to polish them. Westin, Smittybilt, Maap, Rhino all make good products.

I don't like anything really shiny so I try to keep everything black or blue (appropiate colors no matter what I'm doing) but I would say pick one - Black or Chrome/stainless and stick with it for the whole truck. Here are some Smittybuilts:
