Looking for some nice nerf bars (Westin, Smittybilt) for my '04. Anyone have these for a good price. $350 is pretty steep. Dealer wants $475, plus install. I would like SS, not black.

Thanks.

I went into the parts dept of the dealership where my truck is ordered. Explained truck on order and that I was looking at purchasing some additional items like Nerfs and Wheel Well liners. Good guy works in there - he offered my 10% off (not the first time he has done that). Makes the price more competitive. I am going to buy the Nerfs - no drilling required and if there are any problems, it is all Mopar stuff. To each his own . . .

I got the Wheel to Wheel GO RHinos in Black. I think I paid around $450 which included "free install". Sure looked easy; no drilling. Makes it much easier to reach stuff in the back.

I went w/the wheel-to-wheel Westin's on my '04 SB. They were $500. They are chrome plated stainless and the road de-icer this winter has not done a thing to them. They still look great :) .

That's a deal compared to what I paid... I had ordered direct from Putco before they were available, paid and arm and a leg to get mine in Feb '03 before distributors were selling them.

I had Luverne SS nerfs on my 00 Ram. They fit well and held up great. When I priced them for my '03 I think they were about $350. Stainless ain't cheap. Friend has the Westin Platinums and they are very nice too. I would stay away from the Smittybuilt stuff myself, several friends have had problems with fit/finish.

WESTIN

I have the westin cps nerf bars on my 2004 ram quad cab. Installed price $395. I had the same type cps westins on my 1999 ford, they held up great. coobie:D :D

I love my Westin "Oval" series bars. They don't wrap back under the cab, which is a huge collection point for salt (at least here in the rust belt). Many older trucks have rust on the rockers in these areas.

Thanks guys. I guess I wasn't too far off with the prices I found. I am going to get the Signature Series or the ovals. I need to find them locally. Shipping seems to be outrageous (truck freight):--)

My '01. 5 was trimmed in black. My new truck is black, so I think that this time I'll trim it in Chrome and stainless. More money, but it'll look real nice.

The black looks REAL sharp trimmed out with the shiny stuff!

If I may make a suggestion, put some bed rail caps and a tailgate cap on too, they save a LOT of chips & dents on the top of the rails/tailgate - learned that lesson on my '00.

FYI - for the bed rail caps & tailgate cap, Dee Zee had the best prices, and the quality was equal to the others. Not affiliated with them, just VERY happy with them!

Thanks. Very good suggestion. I had my 5th wheel fall on my Y2k, and put dings in the bed rails, and totally tacoed my tailgate!

That's why I made some rail covers for my '01. 5. I used 2"x3"x3/16" angle iron, and painted it black. I made it such that I could mount my headache rack and toolbox on it also. I sold the cover with the truck, but plan on making another one. It won't be chrome or stainless, I'll just paint it black again. I had been planning on building another one regardless of whether I sold the truck. I have a dog who loves to ride in the back. He has always got his paws up on the sides, and he keeps scratching the paint. So, I am going to make the new one out of 2"x4"x3/16" angle. They will stick out over the rails more and Sox won't scratch the paint anymore.

I'm also going to make my own headache rack. It'll be louvered, and will accomodate a custom roll-back mounting system for cb antanea. Maybe I'll get some one to chrome it for me, but then again, maybe not. :) I like being able to touch up what I need to. The nerfs and front grill guard will be shiny, though! Will also get mud flaps with aluminum or stainless trim.
