Can any you guys recommend a good scratch remover of cover up product. My green truck looks like somebody ran a couple of keys down each side. But it is actually from driving too close to the willows and mountain mahogany. I've tried to buff the scratches out with compound, but they are too deep. Don't want to do a paint job on a pretty new truck. Maybe I'll just get some white pin striping paint and color in the scratches for an interesting effect.

Lee,
Pinstripes show you use the truck. My son tells me you're a weany if you have a 4x4 with no desert pin stipeing. I wish I could get my wife to agree. I have gone so far as to take garden clompers with me and have actually used them in the heavy stuff. I guess we live with them, paint the truck or (NO WAY)keep on the road. Paint shops do have sponge pads and compound to be used with a power buffer, of coarse this only works on the light ones and only for so many buffings... ... ... .
Good Luck,
Ron

THERE IS A PRODUCT THAT IS MADE OF ULTR-FINE PUMIS THAT MY WIFE BOUGHT IN A CATALOG. WE USED IT ON HER MATALIC BEIGE PAINT AND IT TOOK THE SCRATCHES COMPLETELY OUT. I WILL CHECK AND SEE WHAT IT IS AND EMAIL YOU TUESDAY AFTERNOON. .

Hey Lee,
Man, I really done it this time. I think I might have had one beer too many 'cause I came home with big time REAL PIN STRIPES! The kind that make your better half (love of your life, old lady, main squeeze, etc. ) want to KICK YOUR ASS! I also managed to clip a National Park sign that said I shoudn't have been where I had been for several hours. This left some real nice white paint to go with the stripes! To make things worse I destroyed my steering stabilizer with a rock, probably lucky thats all that got hurt with all the crunching going on (a really big rock field). I did not want to be where I was but, that's another story... .....
Any how, I took some Turtle Wax rubbing compound and then some Turtle Wax polish compound and went to work. After that I went at it with my 3M Imperial Hand Glaze... ... .
Wow! A lot of work but mama can't see what I done! Slip on a new stabilizer, clean up the interior, stay sober and I am home free! O. K. , maybe the paint will fade in a couple years but I can blame that on DODGE! Who needs clear coat when your behind is on the line?
What's a 4x4 for? she says it's for when you get into trouble. I says it's to have fun!
Just thought I would pass this on,
Ron

Oh yeah,
The hand glaze really smoothed out the effects of the compound and seemed to "cover and blend" the over all mess... ... ... ... .
Ron

You may try to blame it on Dodge but it may not work. The first thing they will check is the millage of the paint. The paint layer is measured in mils. This can be checked with a magnetic gauge. Any compound removes the paint. Glad you were able to salvage your paint job. BTW,Im in the autobody trade so I do have some experience in this.

Michael,
I would blame them just to keep peace on the home front. I wouldn't even think of asking them for warranty work!
I didn't see any paint come off with the compound so I don't think I had to go too deep. The scratches are still there but don't stand out. Most of the truck has all ready been re-painted do to another misshap and warranty work.
Usually the Hand Glaze does a good job on the light stripes, but this time I had to go to more drastic measures. Just thought I would pass my results along.
Thanks,
Ron

Hey Ron - Thanks for the tip! I tried the hand glaze this morning and it did improve the appearance of the deep scratches. I don't think that I got through the clear coat with the compound either.

BTW, my own wife, squeeze, old lady, etc is responsible for most of the damage to the truck. I hate going off improved gravel roads with the Ram, since I weigh in at 9700 lb with the loaded camper. I am used to CJs and Toy trucks. I would describe the handling of the Dodge as "ponderous" to be kind. But she insists that since we bought the damn thing with 4-wheel drive we just better well use it off road. So far we have done $1600 of damage to the truck and $3600 to the camper in the first year without the excuse of booze. Luckily, our insurance covered most of the cost. The pinstripes are actually the least of our problems.
