Traded in my "01" for an "02" this month due to the current rebates and didn't want to be a test bed for the "03" model. Now for the meat of the message, during the wheeling and dealing the dealer saw my triple gauge kit and some of the other stuff I had on the truck and loved it... . but didn't want it installed when they took the truck from me. I went home removed everything and took it back swapped the pillar mount and they were as happy as a lark. Anyone got any clues why?

My guess is...

... it might be hard to convince a prospective buyer of your trade-in that the truck hadn't been beaten into the ground. "why would you need gauges if the truck ran fine?" kind of mentality. Perhaps a prospective buyer wouldn't know that the gauges are to make sure that everything stays ok.

just one man's opinion

You were just as well to do that as the dealer wasn't giving you a nickel for those gauges. In my experience aftermarket additions are ignored on trade in. it's like that with about every vehicle. Take Land Rovers for example, a stock Defender will bring more than one with lots of mods. The thought being if they tricked it out they must have beat it up off-road.

I guess it makes sense in a way to have me remove all the gauges and other items. Just was a little confusing as every thing had a purpose and if I was buying the truck I would have wanted them to stay. Dealer mentality and how they see the vehicle is somewhere out in left field in my mind. Just because we added the gauges doesn't mean we beat the heck out of it... ... just the opposite, we are making sure we don't hurt the truck!

Many suffer from the "If it ran OK, why did the previous owner get rid of it" syndrome.

Gauges-aftermarket exhaust-engine dress up= high performance=previous driver "drove it like he stole it" to the uninformed. ;)
