I bought a new 2004 HO 3. 73 48re mpg. from day one was 12 .

it hasn't gotten much better maybe 13 hway no load I know it should be better. If they reflash it would that help?

When I was looking at new trucks I accidentally smoked the tires on one of them. They were very powerfull . I can't do that with mine if I tried . Someone said if you can't lite em up from a standstill

somethings wrong. Any help guys, please!!

Thanks in advance, Steve

If this is empty, relatively flat driving, I'd be complaining to the dealer. Mine is the worst case (DRW 4WD), and I still get 16, every time (hand calculated). I haven't heard of anybody getting worse than this, without a load.

I don't think it's so much the power that squeals the tires when their new as much as the rear ends binding up. A thousand miles or so loosens them up.

My mileage varies depending on what I'm doing with the truck. I run mostly unloaded and get almost 400 miles out of a tank just driving back and forth from work and running errands. However, I recently sold my plow and agreed to deliver it to the new owner in south Jersey. On this trip, I filled up the tank, drove about 125 miles to his house and burned about 1/2 tank. This was at an average speed of 70 mph. While not the greatest mileage (maybe 8 or 9 mpg on average), it's to be expected when you have a 750 pound non-aerodynamic hunk of steel hanging off the front end.

As for spinning the tires, I've never been able to get any of my Cummins trucks to do it from a standstill. Only if I stand on the brakes, bring the engine up, then quickly release the brakes, will the tires spin a little.

I've been averaging 15 MPG with A LOT of stop and go driving... . my best tank was 19. 7 MPG with a fair amount of highway but still some in town driving. Mine's an '04 HO 3. 73 auto trans.....

Something may be wrong with your truck... . ??

I have the same setup as you

2004 ram H. O. 3. 73 48re auto I am getting any where from 17 to 19 mile to gal.combined city, highway, mostly highway. Driving 60 to 65 miles an hr. Truck has about 1500 miles on it. I also use stanadyne fuel additive. I live in michigan,so weather is cold. coobie:)

Mine is a 4x4 Thanks for the replies keep em coming. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do . Or take it back to the dealer. I was told they might not do anything about it

Thanks Steve

18.5 mpg

Mine is old but good. Just checked goin to Kansas City and back home running 65-70 mph,,, 18. 5 mpg

Truck has over 366,000 miles

Steve,

You don't say where you live but have you just used the "Winterized" diesel fuel since you bought it?

Mileage takes a nosedive when running winter fuel. 2-3 MPG less is not uncommon.

Ditto for my driving habits and resulting MPG.

Dealer then Edge Juice

Take it to the dealer and get it fixed and then put and Edge Juice on when it comes out. :D

I get 17-18mpg all the time.

mine is just at 200 miles and as of right now is at 18. 1 since picking it up. it has been going up steadily. mixed driving with some highway but mostly city. and yes i have been getting into it very often. i love spinning tires in 4th on moist pavement. i lowered the tire pressure to keep it hooked up.

10. 9 pulling 8000lbs roughy 70 mph. From middle ALA. TO Nw Ga. 11. 4 driving four lane non interstate pulling same load but driveing 45/55 and most low 60 mph. 8000 miles

SS reset your overhead going down a highway at 45 mph if you still get that mpg you stated something is not right. I do it and it says 20-21

2003 srw 3500 6 speed 4x4 no towing yet but getting 19 - 20 per overhead computer. the 3rd gen are very hard to fill to the top to get an accurate reading for hand calculated. maybe when it warms up i won't mind standing there for ever trying to fill to the top. has anyone found a way to make these vent better?

Drove 800 miles over the weekend. I-40, I-540 and US64.

Drove 75-80MPH on I-40, I-540 and 60-65MPH on US64.

Computer said I got 17. 2 mpg. Fuel tank said I got 18. 1 mpg.

Light crosswind on US 64 & I-40. Turned into light tailwind on I-540 which is real hilly.

Truck has 1,666 miles on it today. 2500 LWB 4x4 3. 73 Stock HO Auto.
