I left on a 250 mile trip yesterday, pulling a 14k 5th wheel with my new (1700 miles) 3500 drw with 5. 9 and 48re and 3. 73. All was well for the first 175 miles or so, then it was if my trailer brakes were stuck at about half on. The normal interstate grades suddenly caused me to have to shift the automatic to 2nd, then 1st in order to maintain 40 mph or so. I finally made it to Huntsville, disconnected the trailer and tried the truck empty. It starts and runs fine, but seems sluggish when starting off, and if you "stand on it", it just leisurely accelerates! It also holds an extremely long time in 2nd, and the upshift is quite harsh. I drove it the 250 miles home at about 70, and it maintains that speed o. k. , but with very little reserve. Mileage for the trip home was 19. 5. My Dealer says bring it in tomorrow. I really hope he can find the problem. If so, I'll make the drive back to Huntsville (500 mi. round trip), and pick up the fifth wheel. (No way I could have pulled it home the way it is)! Any ideas?
