New 17" E rated not as HD as old 16" ones!!!!!

Interesting the new 2003 2500 4wd CC's have LT 265 70 R 17 tires that are E rated yet only have a capacity of 3195 lbs at 80 psi. The older 2500 QC 4X4 (Both Cummins) have the LT 265 75 R 16 with a

Load Capacity at 80 Lbs E of 3415 lbs. that's 840 lbs LESS than last year! Kind'a interesting... I Know it still add's up to a lot more than 8800 lbs - yet I don't know why the change - if 17 is better - wouldn't 20's be better yet - where's this thing going? Oh sure they say the disc's can be bigger for larger brakes, but how big is enough .

I am sure that the tires vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but I know that the Michelin tires on the past 2500 trucks were rated at 3042 @ 80 PSI. That would mean the 17's are higher rated than the past stock tires.

I am doing some reasearch on the TOYO tires , open country A/T and have all the TOYO info , I did find 2 possible fits for my truck, keep in mind I want to stay stock or close to it .



LT265/75R16 D/8 ply rates at 3000lb @65psi, this tire is 31. 6 overall diameter



LT285/75R16 122Q-rates at 3305lb@65psi,the tire is 32. 7 overall diameter



Toyo does offer a LT305/70R16 124Q-rates at 3525@65psi, this tire is 32. 7 overall diameter.



I know there are many brands to offer but this is what I found on TOYO tires

Mr Research Whitmore I looked at the Toyo site too I was considering those if I would of kept my 2000. Pretty good looking tire to me. I know this fellow that used to run them on a Toyota 4wheel he had and he said they would not wear out. But thats a different truck different size tire. Theres bound to be some more of you boys out there running Toyo's. Going ahead Kevin take that big step and get some and try em. I would think there about as good as any other tire.

I wondered why a 17" wheel also. When I was looking at the two 2003 trucks I did not look at the load rating except to note it was an E tire.



The 245 tires that came on the 2500s were rated at 3042. It is the Michelin 265 LRE that have a 3415 rating. THE BFG 255/85/16 MT carries a 3000# rating. You get a larger tire with almost as much rating as the OEM 245s with no rubbing and no lift required.

I have had the new 2657516 10 ply E rated Open Country on since Feb (approx 14000 miles) I love them . They are far better on packed snow and ice than the Michelins and seem to be wearing well!! They have a very stiff sidewall and I run them apprx 10 psi lower per tire than the Michelins to keep the wear even.

Thanks for confirming my reasearch, Toyo it will be, First I have to put my truck up on blocks for a week while I get my OEM alloys powdercoated black with clearcoat cooked on too
