Installed the Ruff Country 2" leveling kit today. Did it for two reasons.

1st; looks. Now sits level. Love the looks.

2nd; 285/75/16's rubbing on the factory Mopar two-piece mud flaps. But the tires are still rubbing... although not as bad. Anyone have some other ideas?

The tires are rubbing still becasue although you did lift the front, you also pulled the axle back, toward the mudflaps about 1/3". To only real way to correct this is to install 4 new, longer control arms. Installing just longer lower arms may fix the problem, but it will rotate the axle backwards causing a negative change in the angle of the driveshaft and front axle.

DT (the trackbar guys) sells control arms that are 1/2 longer than stock. I don't know it that will be enough to solve your problem, but it will help.

Is your problem when steering or when you hit a bump? I have 285's on alcoa rims and they never rub. Could it be the offset of the rims? Did you know you can limit how far you can turn the wheels, if this is your problem.

The tires have rubbed ever since I installed the 285's. The two piece mudflaps have been the culprit since the start. My wifes truck does not have the mud flaps and the tires do not rub. I really like the looks of the mud flaps and do not want to lose them.

Cooker,
Have you added the aftermarket control arms to your truck? What was the cost? Any ride difference?
You've got my attention

I installed a 2 1/2" kit from skyjacker on my y2k and tried to fit 315's but they screwed up my mileage. They would rub at full turn either way. Dropped down to the 285's and they clear fine. The lift came with lower arms and springs as well as shocks. The shocks suck... After putting up with them for 6 months I dumped them and went with the rancho rs9000 and set them at 5. Now the truck rides and behaves like a 3/4 ton should. When you lifted your truck you also pulled the axle rearward and shifted it to the right. The only way to fix that rub is to have a set of custom made control arms and panhard rod or ditch the mudflaps. Good luck.

Ram,

I agree with Canned ham, Ditch the mud flaps.
I had the same problem with the moulded Dodge mud flaps. They get in the way of a tall tire in a turn. On a friends truck, 36" tires rubbed the Dodge Moulded flaps too. Plenty of clearence everywhere else. Just those darn mud flaps interfere with the tire. Front end slightly lifted or stock. My truck has a 2" leveling kit. Friends truck is stock. Flaps interfered on both trucks. Makes no difference.

Ram_Kowboy,
Sorry I don't have them on my truck, as I don't yet have the Tuff Country leveling kit installed. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I will be purchasing a set, but I'm thinking about it.

The price from DT is $250 for the set of all 4. They are not a boxed design, but I forget the actual design. Again they are 1/2 longer than stock and should push the axle about 1/3 of an inch forward.

The longer arms are definitely not a necessity, there are a ton of guys who don't run the longer arms who have leveled off the front of their trucks. But if you want to keep the mudflaps, they may help.

Cooker, who are the DT (trackbar guys)? Do they have a web site or a cataloge? Are their contol arms round stock, urethane bushings? Thanks Pete

Pete,

Rancho sells New upper & lower control arms for a stock and a lifted truck. I used the stock ones. Not sure of the part #'s.

They are a boxed construction with Poly bushings both ends.

MUCH better than the crappy OE stamped ones with the rubber bushings.

Hemi is right about the Rancho arms. They are much better than stock. I don't know about the length of the "lifted" Rancho arms, but in their 2" kit the arms are the same length as the stock arms, and also the 2" Rancho kit only come with lower arms.

As I said the DT arms are 1/2" longer, which should push your axle back to where it was before the 2" leveling kit.

Sorry I don't have a website for them, but if you want I can get you their number and you can give them a call. Email me if you want their number, I don't have it next to me right now.
