As some of you have been following my other thread, my new 08 5500 was ordered in July and built 1 Aug 07 based on the Chrysler Computer... than it was moved to a lot and sat, and sat... ...

At the time we ordered there was no provision for engine heater, or exhaust brake on the order sheet (computer), in fact we ordered before we had pricing... I expect the truck to have both included in the base price... .

I was told that I'd get the same deal, invoice, -$1000. 00 and any rebates including the farm bureau rebate... . so we'll see what the final price is when the trucks ready.....

I received notice the other day that the truck was finally moving to the US... . and I should expect delivery sometime during the 3rd week of Oct... .

I dropped a note to the dealer and my sales guy was at a training class in Dallas TX on the new trucks... . they had 2 or 3 of them sitting there(Dallas TX) but were not allowed to drive them because of some steering problem... He tells me that all the production had to be altered in Mexico before they could load them onto the rail cars because of this steering problem... .

The good part is the truck is moving, the bad part is that I have to be in Vegas for a 10 day business trip and trade shows... APRA, SEMA, AAPEX and I'm guessing that it will be my luck the truck will arrive when I'm gone and will have to sit for my return... .

We've already ordered metal for the custom bed and have started to build that... I'm guessing it will be mid Nov before we have it on the road...

We are replacing a 00 F550 with close to 500K miles... . I would have liked a quad cab but couldn't buy the truck in a long enough frame and didn't want to go to that trouble... If this truck performs well in the first year I'll need to order at least 1 more truck... .

10/12/07 - Truck now set for delivery to dealer next week... .

10/19/07 - Truck is now in Phoenix... . no clue why its not in Spokane it really doesn't matter much... I'm sitting in a motel in Canada and couldn't pick it up any way... ...

10/24/07, Had a note from the dealer, truck is moving from Phoenix to Spokane I was driving south on I-15 today... in Idaho and passed 4 semi's with a flat beds each with (2) 5500's on them... one trailer had 2 that were the ones I'm sure going to Spokane for Inland Power and MY TRUCK... I called the dealer on the cell and confirmed the fact that the Inland Power truck was white and told him I'd passed them... . He said he'd look for them tomorrow and call me... . I'm gone for 10 days so its going to sit until I get home. .

It would be interesting to find out specifically what the issue was with the steering. How could they get that close to release before discovering such a problem?

I look forward to seeing your unvarnished opinions of the new rig.

You don't recon that the steering and front axles were bent when they tried to get them across the fence at the border?

Hey Jim

When you take delivery of the truck take a whole bunch of pictures of everything thing top to bottom and email them to me and I'll put them online for you.

Axles, sway bars, everything.

Even if they are bent. :-laf

Speaking of crossing the border, while we traveling from Tucson to Tombstone yesterday, we saw a Border Patrol truck stop a little pick-up going north. As soon as the truck stopped, the passenger took off into the desert, followed by on of the Border Patrol officers. First time I've ever seen that.

Three years ago I was in Miami. One night when we were returning to South Beach via the McArthur Causeway I got a front row seat to a group of Hatians jumping off a boat, wading to the shore , then clambering into a bunch of little old pickups waiting for them. Finally got through the mess and watching the nightly news got to see the same refugees getting detained by a few Border agents and some Coasties. Closest I'ver come to the whole boder mess.

Your truck must have been on the same train as mine. I got a call today that mine will be in Spokane on Monday and I should have it next week. I only ordered mine on 09/15/07 though. I would have gone nuts by now if I had to wait as long as you for my truck.

Where are you taking delivery of it at?

Not gettin' antsy are ya???
I know what jelag is going through, I went through the same thing with my new 3500 C&C. When I tried to order the truck, the dealer was very unsure which HP or delivery or options he could get with it, so I waited for the info and it cost me a little more because of the extra cost of the blue-tech and the new price of the 6. 7. When I did order the truck it took a little longer than most others because of some hold on shipping that was never explained to me in a satisfactory way, especially because I had a deadline to meet with my company starting up and driving to Kansas to get my B&W Elite bed installed.

Good luck on your new truck jelag, don't forget to include pics.

The border crossing problem

I have not got the photos yet but I heard there were 6 (Saltilloeoins)mashed when their HD zip tyes were ripped off from all new 5500s. They all piled into the wheel wells and zip tyed their collars to the HD front coil springs.

Orders from DC I bet was upgrade all 19. 5 tires to "G" rating... .

#@$%! Don't you know that hurt. You wonder why all 5500s now have 7000# front axles...

Get me those photos JELAG...

New photo of 5500 at border after accident

BAD to the bone...

This is NOT quad cab model. .

The new 5500 with newly designed front steering and extra heavy "ST" tires would have made it across to the udder side.

today is the 19th (OCT)... the truck is coming to Dishman... and I was told yesterday by email the truck is now sitting in Phoenix and not Spokane... don't have a clue why that is.....

Rob if your reading this... . get ready to sit down and find out what the hel* is causing the delay and what is wrong with these trucks... I'm want the truck but I don't want some bull SH** story about why they are delayed... I want too know exactly why they have been delayed and whats been changed or modified to get them street ready... .

And if there has been damage what has been repaired.....

Wasn't it in late June or early July when it was ordered???? I know it was before pricing was available...

Of course... if next month there is some great rebate, say 4000 or something and its delayed until than... I'll be a happy camper... .

I know this probably doesn't help you any, but 5500's are being delivered. I looked at a white standard cab 5500 sitting on the lot at Burgin Dodge (Knoxville, TN) last week. --Eric
