Ya know, when I first saw the new super dutys I thought they were ugly, but figured they might grow on me and look better. But every time I look at one, they get uglier and uglier. You know its bad when chevys look good compared to them!
 
Forgive my ignorance ofthe 6. 4 Ford, but isn't it a common rail diesel with a particulate filter? Maybe even a Bosch piezo-injector system? Does that not sound familiar? Is there any reason why leaking injectors combined with a DPF won't send flames out of a 6. 7? Without more info, I wouldn't be limiting this to a Ford only problem - it may be that a DPF is just a leaky injector detector. And did I read something wrong, or did they say a cracked turbo shaft caused fuel leakage into the exhaust? Hows that happen? Maybe they are using an exhaust mounted injector to produce regen cycle EGTs - if that was the problem I would feel better about the chances of this happening on a 6. 7.



On the other hand, anything that forces Dodge to replace leaky injectors might not be all bad . . .
 
A customer of mine is a salesman at our local ford dealership so you know that I couldn't resist talking to him about the 6. 4. He said they have sixteen of them online at the lot and can't sell any of them due to the flaming tailpipe syndrome. This just tops off the pos 6. 0 problems that have been happening. I sure am glad my dad had enough hindsight to hunt for a 7. 3 when they came out with the 6. 0. He said he had a bad feeling when they reduced the cubic inches... ... . The bad thing is, my ole man aint no wrench? Go figure!

A buddy of mine searched and got a 7. 3 right when the 6. 0 came out. He is very glad he made the choice. His 7. 3 has been a pretty good truck.

There's just one little difference, one is built by Cummins and the other is by International even if the injectors are made by the same manufacture, the inspection and quality control are obviously much better with Cummins, I didn't hesitate when I bought my C&C on that issue.
 
Ryan- I got a chuckle from you posting the 4 links. Today I wanted to show a Duramax friend the video- and I had some trouble finding it.

We both had a good laugh when we finally found it. He still busts my chops over being a former Ford guy- key word is former.

MAybe it's the angle of the camera, but the grille looks very tall. Have they mounted the bumper lower? (I doubt the hood is higher) Something just looks WAY off to me.

Sounds like they'll need some more software tweaks to keep the boost low until the turbos are warmed up!

My neighbor just got a F550 a week or two ago. He loves it. So far nothing wrong except he had to move the rubber mudflap further from the tailpipe... it was melting. He said it drives like a gasser, instant take-off. No waiting for spool-up.

I haven't figured out how to keep a straight face the first time he calls me to resue him on the road somewhere.
