new 600(finally) oil smell & other stuff..

picked up the new 600 today!

oil smell in cab is terrible! there is 70 miles on the motor. will this go away? sweet truck!! i'll post some pics soon... james

oily smell

I have put a little over 600 miles on and the smell inside the cab

is gone. I still notice it however when I exit the truck. The truck

is running great. I got past my 500 mile break in period and opened it up the other day. Can't wait to hook up my 5th wheel. We'll be traveling over 9000 miles this year. Good luck with you

when you say oil smell, what exactly are you smelling? is it the diesel exhaust fumes or raw diesel or motor oil vapors?



in my 04. 0 i get the diesel exhaust fumes while sitting at a light some times. it depends on which way the wind is blowing and whether or not i have the heater on. i have traced it to exhaust fumes being carried to the front of the truck, by the air intake at the base of the windshield.



some have tried blocking off some of the intake holes in the cowl. i myself just shut off the blower when sitting at a light. it takes care of the problem. turn it back on once you get moving again.

The oil smell is normal.

Mine has a noticable scent at times, sort of smells like laundry detergent.

this smells like used motor oil, not diesel fumes. this is my third dodge/cummins since 1997. i've never smelled anything like it in a new truck before. it really upsets me because i have leather and as soon as i stop all i smell is burnt oil. also i noticed on the fire wall under the hood on the AC side there is a pipe sticking out. it looks like it should have a heater hose or somthing on it. do any of you have the same thing? i hope this smell goes away!!... . james

I wondered about that hose also I too have the diesel fume smell in the cab, only at a light with the vent open to the outside.

could be coming from the breather tube... many have extended it to go way under the truck to try to prevent the smell from coming into the cab

i believe the tube is a condensate drain for the air conditioning evaporator core.
