Here is one of my most recent accessories ... It has always annoyed me having to reach so far for the gear shift. I stand 6'4" and have to keep the seat all the way back for leg room. This makes 3rd and od a long reach... .

I made the extension on the Lathe out of stainless 5/8ths hex stock... . I bored the female end out on a taper to match the original shifter and run down tight.

It is metric threads :( Metric threads suck !

The hat looks like something that JLEONARD would wear

Does it say "Cummins" on it? I don't think so.

Then I ain't wearin' it. (Besides... looks too much like a Tilley)

Mysteryguy... it looks good, but I don't suffer from seat-too-far-away-to-reach-the-shifter-itis.

Nifty-Shifty

I like the work you did. For me however, my arms are long enough that I don't have the problem of reach.

What I want is to turn the entire shift cover around so that the tower is at the back rather than the front. This would allow the stick to be several inches shorter giving an efective short throw shift and putting it convienient to tall and short alike.

With your connections, you might get that done reasonably.

Hey James, I have the solution to your problems. Just install a NV5600, the shift tower is further back. Problem solved :D :-laf

5600

Just install a NV56$$$$$. Well Travis, I like the concept. If I could do a couple of hail Marys and turn round about three times and click my heels together and have it happen, I'd go for it.

But my standing in the Getrag preservation society would suffer if I bail on the Getrag. The way I use my truck, the Getrag is enough and quite honestly, I don't have the desire for the wrenching to do the conversion. When I was younger, I would work 18 hours a day to do some change on my ride. I had a Scout/Case 188 diesel and a Ford/Perkins 6-354 running 10 years before Dodge did the Cummins. (It ain't bragging if you really did it. ) At 63, I don't have the fire for it anymore. And that is the sort of thing that you have to do for yourself to have it done the way you want it. NOBODY can work on my truck to my satisfaction. (Not even me sometimes)

I would also like an automatic with all the tough stuff that is$$$$$ available. The shift tower reversing is just an idea I want to persue and will if I ever get off my duff.

Ya, I hear you. If'n I ever do anything to mine, it'll be a U. S. Gear under-drive. I don't think I will ever really need to have a beefier trans, just more gears. 10 speeds would be nice.

top cover

I could get it done but the cost of the die to cast the cover would be big bucks... . It is just not worth the cost or the time. , There would not be enough interest in the part... Off hand I figure it would take 20 K to get the ball rolling. I have been considering machining from billet a short throw shifter tower. But it would take weeks on the mill to chop it out... .

trans

the getrag is a better trans than the nv's if you build them correctly!
