Sounds good with 5 layers of cotton and two synthetic layers... and that it is supposed to filter to OEM specs of 99. 5% efficiency. Mr. Bob's distributing has had them for a while now. I went ahead and got the original AFE anyway.

I thought the original AFE was supposed to filter as good as an OEM filter. Does this new one flow less than the original?

Cooker:

I just read the article last night and I think it said they flow 10% less than the original afe or maybe it was on mr bobs site that said that.

I like and run the pro-guard 7, with the prefilter sock. I dyno tested the pg7 against the 5 ply at about 700 hp and they were the same. So, if your Ram is under that, it might as well have the extra filtration.

Joe - Can you answer a question for me please?

On the aFe website, the don't have any actual pictures of any of the air filters that we are using, just blueprint type diagrams. I have an eariler model aFe air filter on my truck, and why I went to it from the K&N filter was due to the end of the K&N being solid and the aFe I have is filtration material on the end, and it is concave also.

What is the new ProGuard 7 filter like on the end? Is it solid or filtration material?

I hope that question makes sense. I can take pictures and post them if it isn't clear.

Thanks,

Tom

TomGolden... thats the "funnel ram" feature of the AFE cone style filter. They get alot of extra filter surface area outta that feature.

Just got the new AFE Pro-Guard 7 filter

Just got the new Pro-Guard 7 AFE filter to upgrade the Magnum Force filter on the '94-'02 Mega-Cannon.

1. ) The filter media is yellow. I held it up to the light. There are No Holes anywhere to be seen. No even little ones. The filtering media has the appearance of paper. It is identical in size to the Magnum force filter. IMO This is a real nice filter.

2. ) W/O silencer ring Turbo whine is reduced by 30%-50% over the Magnum Force filter that was OE on the Mega-Cannon.

3. ) I read here that the filter does flow 10% less than the Magnum force. Geno's says 2%. I can't notice a difference in EGT anywhere.

4. ) The end is not open like on the Magnum Force. Mr. Bob said "testing showed the open end did not increase air flow in normal

operation. The air wants to enter around the neck, so neck size and

smooth entry with a radius neck is important".

5. ) The main reason for upgrading to this filter was when I took off the inlet hose the other day, I found dust/Fine sand? in the ribs of the intake hose and on the turbo blades and in compressor housing. I could not find any leaks. The filter has 8K miles on it and had a pre-filter. Is the Magnum force filter letting dust/ fine sand through?

The AFE Pro-Guard Filter upgrade for the Mega-Cannon is p/n afe 72-90010. Geno's Garage and Mr Bob's has them. Cost is in the low nineties.

I'm afraid so. I've been having that problem with mine. Spent a lot of money on a filter(and outerwears bag) that still lets in dirt:(

Josparkz, look hard for a split in the tube from the filter to turbo.

It happens and can be hard to see unless you bend the tube around.

Will do. Thanks

Any other filter designs for Pro Gaurd 7?

Anyone know if AFE is going to offer the Pro Gaurd 7 technology in any of the other fitler designs? I have a Scotty II and would like the extra filtration with the EGT dropps I get with the Scotty.

Thanks

J-

Scotty II / AFE 7

JCyrbok- Call AFE @ 877-512-8111 with the dimentions of the filter you have in the Scotty II and see if they have one that'll fit. Ron

Is there a drop in AFE filter in the proguard 7 or is it really necessary to purchance a whole box. $300 seems high for a filer system that adds ? to the bottom line.

I'm almost positive you can get a drop in filter for the OE Dodge airbox. The whole idea behind them is to give a "higher" flowing filter to the average user who wants to stay within spec on filtering ability. Great for folks who use trucks daily in dusty environments yet want better airflow.

I cant find a thing on afefilters.com about ProGuard7 even though I've read about them elsewhere. You'd think they would update their own site before putting them out there.
