Pretty excited, parts and pieces for our new shop air compressor are rolling in.

Have a screw compressor here already with two reciprocating units for back up but the poor thing is over twenty years old so it is time. It pretty much carries the entire building (16 + bays) with many leaks, a tire retreading chamber and a bunch of 1" drive tools 20 hours a day, 6 days a week. It does get Sundays off.......

So I will provide pictures of the install as it happens, the new screw compressor is here along with a 400 gallon storage tank. The existing screw does not even have a freestanding tank but does use the tanks under the recips as storage.

Wow! I think someone might be compensating with the big ole compressor tank :D

On a serious note, can never have too much air. It's like having too much money; just doesn't happen. I was tickled pink when I was finally able to afford my 80 gallon 2 stage compressor....no more waiting for the compressor to keep up with the die grinder.

Just found pictures of our current unit. That little white box makes way more air than the two in the back ground combined.

We has an old Joy in a V-3 cofig at my old job, along with some screw compressors. Other various compressors were scattered over the property.
Regrettably that place is long gone and I have no pics.:(

Decades ago when Mike was lots younger and I worked at a golf course we had a contractors air compressor on a trailer, a Smith as I recall. 4 cyl Wisconsin 2 cylinders to run it and 2 cylinders as the compressor side. Weird but when it ran it sure blew out the irrigation lines in the fall.

Do a search for Schramm compressors. Some friends of mine had an S250. It was self propelled on a utility chassis. 6 cyl. 3 for air and 3 for drive. Very handy.

Who there handles those domestic type duties, like PMing that stuff? Low man? Short straw?

A couple of the top techs do the routine maintenance, major stuff we call in the Pros...Can't have the air supply down for long, those two old recips can't carry us when the screw is down...

Schramm and I-R were fierce competitors, even in the drill rig business. I grew up a couple miles from an enormous I-R plant(pump division, compressor division, and foundry), and their stuff was everywhere. You had to plan trips through town around shift changes. Now, it's all gone.

Today's the day, install has started.

Talking with installer dude and he said that Atlas-Copco has made the motor and compressor one unit. That eliminates shaft seal leaks and other issue. There are oil journals to cool the bearings and such in the motor as well. Sounds kinda' cool...

The Atlas looks good. To bad I didn't know earlier. I need a good compressor for the house. We might have gotten a better deal if we ordered 2. :-laf:-laf:-laf
