Its an oiled type like K&N's, but seems to be a bit higher quality. More pleats, heavier construction. I have the AFE 20-40044, the same dimensions as the K&N RE-0880. Was happy with it.

That is a nice rig, but the graph is not going to convince me that the filter in the picture is gonna flow over twice what the BHAF flows. It looks less than half the size of the BHAF. brian mallory

New air filter system

I talked to Bob today, he says he saw the flow test and the AFE did what they say. I ordered one, you have to call to get the TDR price. I have the Fleetguard BHAF installed now, I'll post what I find after I try it. I really don't know what to look for, because I've never had my filterminder move on me even with the Amsoil filter in the stock box. Brandon did a mod for me on the stock air box, 2- 2 1/2" hoses going thru the firewall, and all it did was make more noise. The BHAF did quiet it down a lot, but don't have the filterminder on the BHAF. I'll post when I find something. Let me know what to look for.

Just trying to apply some logic. Less area on the filter and more airflow tell me less filtering ability. I got away from a K&N because of the oil.



And the price seems a little steep. A BHAF and Mallory's sheild are less than half that price.



Mostly I don't think my little HY turbo could suck enough air to make a difference.

I think Mr. Bob’s graph is a bit unrepresentative. He mentions the BHAF with appropriate part numbers in his text, yet depicts Donaldson DC145 in the graph column. I am not familiar with this part number or how it corresponds to the Donaldson B105006.



This could be a typo. However, lets compare apple to apples. The following are Fleetguard specifications.



Fleetguard P/N: AH19037 (BHAF)

450 CFM @ 2 inches of water

590 CFM @ 4 inches of water

685 CFM @ 6 inches of water

918 CFM @ 8 inches of water

830 g of dirt holding capacity

99. 9% Final efficiency

10. 5 in x 11. 88 in = 562 sq. inches of surface area





I looked at advanced Flow engineering’s (aFe) site, but could not find any specifications on the 50-10071 filter. I did find dimensional specifications for the 20-40044 and calculated the surface area of that filter. The aFe 20-40044 is 6 in x 14 in. = 321 sq. inches. An additional 493 CFM from the aFe 50-10071 filter over the stock filter is impressive however, 431 CFM over the BHAF seems too good to be true and still protect our CTD.



I am not bashing Mr. Bob or AFE, just inquisitive of their testing procedures and how it compares to Fleetguard’s. What are the dimensions, final efficiency and dirt holding capacity?

FYI This magnum AFE filter has a reverse cone on the front side also.



I would like a RE-0880 replacement with this same reverse cone. I think this would make the Scotty Air System(PSA) even better

On the side of his chart it shows the tests were done at 1. 5" H2O. The fleetguards specs are 450 at 2. 0" H2O. So his 389 results may be pretty close.



I would like a little more explation of what 2" H2O versus 4" or 6" H2O really means?? Thanks.

I use neither but just an observation

maybe the BHAF beat Mr Bob and AFE to market??? and you can buy 3-4 BHAF for the price of the AFE system

i compared the napa version of the BHAF to a freshly cleaned and oiled RE-0880 , within . 5 HP of each other , nod going to the K+N , and that could be operator error ???



lost of oil being sucked into my intake syatem from both the amsoil and the K+N ... i like the bhaf , i'll be removing my intercooler when i pull my radiator and flush it out ...

Inches of water is a measure of vacuum, it is the same units that are used on your filter minder. It is the amount of vacuum to raise water in a tube one inch. It can also be used to measure pressure but then is measured in feet and is call head. Zero equals no pressure or vacuum.

As Corey (CumminsAholic) noted, the setup on pg. 69 of issue 34 looks interesting. I want to see the price for it and the K&N induction system coming in 2002.

The new system from K&N should be interesting. I'm running a Psychotty and have gotten rid of the high temp problems when towing heavy loads. I am going to change to the AFE filter for the Pshchotty. I guess the next project will be the clutch since I hae enough power and low EGT's. Someone keep me informed about the new K&N setup.

Consider more than size when looking at filter efficiency! A filter that has a cotton gauze element can flow a lot of air through a small area whereas a cheaper, less efficient element may use a thicker matrix of larger substrate and flow much less with a larger flow area. Like everything else, you do get what you pay for, but you need to decide how much you really need.
