I've been running the aFe Pro-guard 7 panel filter in my stock airbox with the PSM cold air kit...

It was time to clean and/or change the air filter and I've been really impressed with the AEM Dryflow filtering capabilities. However, I didn't want to spend more $$$ on their cold air kit.

They have a drop in panel filter and I like the fact that you don't have to oil it and they test with ISO fine dust. I personally think that if you don't oil the oil type filters at least once/year that they dry out and lose filtering capability.

You can check them out at AEM - Dryflow Performance Panel Filter

Picked it up at Car Parts, Truck Parts, Auto Accessories: Just Great Parts Cheap at CarParts.com for approx $68.

Comparing to the aFe filter, the aFe has 22 pleats and the AEM has 24. The aFe has better quality in their seal molding capabilities (no flash anywhere). The AEM has some slight flash on the clean air side that I had to razor blade off. The aFe has a wire mesh on the clean air side just like stock and AEM doesn't.

I'll update when I get some driving experience with the new filter.

I didn't check the price on the cleaning solution.

I meant to say it doesn't have a screen on the clean side. It has mesh, just like the aFe.

I've been running their cone type filter for 119,800 miles which i bought at Extreme Diesel two days after the truck. Never tested the effisiency just kind of ran with it, and never had any issues. I would love to see your findings compared to your previous filter.

Will do, but its gonna take a while. I only use the truck for towing the 5er and our first trip is going to be Memorial Day weekend...

Panel filter cleaning

Just looked at the pdf file for the cone filter cleaning. Has anyone cleaned the panel filter? Would think it would be cleaned in a flat baking pan or similar container. But without a neck like the cone seems it would be real easy to get cleaner solution and dirty water splashed over the seal, when agitating the filter, into the clean side as the depth of solution to get to the top of the pleats would be right below the seal with very little room to spare. Wonder what would happen to the filter, other than getting dirt on the clean side, if this happened? Seems like it would be very easy to ruin the filter cleaning it.
