Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) new alternator, is this just my imagination ?

I just replaced the alternator on my truck. It was only putting out about 20 amps. The new one is close to 145 amps.

It seems like the truck now runs a little smoother, and it shifts better and smoother. Is that just my imagination ? Or has the improved amp output affected everything in a positive way ?

The bad one had been putting out 14.2 volts, but the amperage was down 20 amps. I had it replaced because sometimes it would drop down to zero.
But most of the time it was 14.2
