Has anyone purchased a new, high quality alternator to solve the TC lock/unlock problem and STILL had that problem after the installation?

Also, how do you test an alternator for "noise" that is causing many of us problems?

Diode replacement has been mentioned as a solution. How big a deal is it to do that?

What brand/output alternator have any of you purchased to solve the TC problem? Buying new and still having the TC issues would not be fun.

Thank you in advance!

install the noise filter, had the same problem till I installed filter in july. my advise dont use 30 amp filter causes a long delay in final lockup try 15-20amp filter

Here's what I just found on my truck after trying all these things. I tried the new alternator, I tried a noise filter which "fixed" the lock-unlock but also delayed kick down which I hated. I checked/cleaned all the grounds and ohmed them all out (they ohmed out fine). The problem was the PCM grounds pins 31 and 32 in the C3 connector of the PCM which is the connector closest to the engine. All I did to verify was to scotch lock a wire to one of these 2 ground wires pin 31 or 32, it doesnt matter which because they are spliced together in the engine harness, and connect the other end of the same wire to the neg post of the battery. Problem solved, its been about 3 weeks since I've done this and so far so good. All i have to do now is make the fix more permanent.

My 2001 auto 4wd was doing this along with low voltage showing on APPS. I found posting on adjusting voltage on APPS or TPS. Worked for a little while and started messing up again. Read on another posting about wrapping the ground wire on the back of the alternator with aluminum foil about 6 in and the taping it. The alternator/starter shop told me mine was self grounding. I went ahead and wrapped the main power cable attached to the alternator and the ground wire blk with brn stripe which runs from a cluster next to the alternator to the passenger battery grnd. I wrapped both with the foil about 8 to 9 inches from the alternator and closeness to it and then wrapped it with splicing compound and then tape. I don't know why but I have not had any more problems. A cheap try.
