new awning's

Hi all, Has anyone changed the awning's that cover the slide out's, Is this something you can do at home or should you let the dealer do it? The one on our bedroom slider is about shot. Thank's Don

If you have about 2 or 3 other people and ladders, it can be done. . when I bought my RV, I had the dealer do it. If you buy the same model, it will just be a matter of sliding the bead on the rail and then line up the holes for bolts. there should be a hole on the end to take up slack and pin it to hold the tension.

I put a main awning on myself. It wasn't too hard. Help is a good thing. They just slide in the "C" track. As mentioned, if it's the same model, it shoudl be straight forward.

You can change just the fabric.
Open the slide all the way. keep in mind the roller tube is under spring pressure that is trying to roll up the cover.

There should be a place on one end where you can slide in a bolt to lock the rooler tube.

Next there will be a screw in the rooler tube that keeps the meterial from sliding out of the track, remove this screw.

slide the meterial out of both the wall mount and tube the same time,
then slide the new meterial in, replace locking screw, remove bolt that locks slide spring and your done.

Towpro, Thank's that's the info I was looking for, my roller need's to unroll about one more turn to be at the end of the fabric, where did you buy your's Thank's Don

I have never had to replace the fabric on one, but if I did, first I would find out the manafacture, then messure it and call camping world.

My brother used to work in an RV shop. He was telling our Dad how to do it since his MH needs one replaced. I have installed the slide awnings new, but never a replacment.

I have a feeling you will need 3 people to do the job the first time. One on each side pulling the new fabric into the channels, and one on the side keeping the fabric straight as it feeds into the channles.

As far as needing to unwind one turn, just unwind it, then lock the roller.

WE never had a awning over anything. What a PFS everyone i have seen saggs and collect water when it rains. Our main awning is about all I can handle. I have asked some friends why they have awning over the windows and stuff. Guess what!! wife wanted it. camper world is happy to sell them!!

The slide covers sure are nice when it snows the night before you are leaving.

I've changed out a couple of awnings and it's no big deal. As said before, you'll need the help of a friend but also use lots of very soapy water (dish soap) to lubricate the rail that the awning slides into.
