I know... another exhaust post!

I just had Chico Truck and RV in Chico CA do this today and I'm just stoked!

I had a straight pipe factory w/resonator for the last 10K miles. It was cool for little money spent but, WOW this is it. There is NO drone and yes it's quieter but bolder in tone. The "Serious Tail" 5" tip adds the finishing touch. I realize lots of talk about all sorts of systems pros and cons continues each day, but I'm done now and couldn't be happier. I've looked at many systems on many trucks but honestly guys if you pony up for this system I'm sure you'll agree it's first class stuff. It's my first Bomb and I thank you all for the discerning posts that led me to my decision. :D

Now it's gauges and an Edge box and... and... and... boy this Bombing thing is addictive!

My brother-in-law just had the Banks exhaust installed on his truck. It's a nice system and it doesn't drone like you said. I got my ATS stainless exhaust before Banks came out with theirs and although my exhaust was probably a rip-off I like it better. It sounds alot more like a straight piped exhaust than a muffled system. The muffler and tip are also very well built. The Banks system is definetly a great deal for stainless. ;)

I haven't checked this out but received an email from a member saying Banks lowered the price on their SS systems a lot, it's down to $600.

Yes the price was very reasonable, in fact when Dan the owner at Chico Truck&RV quoted the price I then asked again are you sure it's the SS package he grinned and replied yep! Thats when I told him hold on I'm comming back in a week to have you install it. The sound is quite subdued for a 4" system but then again I'm performing business in this truck and I'm on the cell phone all the time so I guess less sound will provide a less stressful day:rolleyes:

William

WT, I have had the Banks SS system on my '99 3500 since April, and love it. The sound is great, no drone at any speed, and at this new price, a real deal IMHO.

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind:

Could you tell me the body length and diameter of your muffler? Is there a resonator installed as well? What is the difference between what you bought and the Monster 4" Exhaust by Banks?

Thanks,

Robert

Did Banks change their 4" SS exhaust? They sure changed the price. I paid $1,044 back in June, 2001. That should make you feel good about the current price! My system has a little drone that's noticeable at about 2600 rpm. I only notice it when going from OD to 3rd. Interesting. ;)

I've been away a few days... sorry for the tardy responce.

Robert, I messured the muf this morning it's 22" x 9"... . it's the Banks Dynaflow. I don't believe there's any difference in this package compaired to a package from 1 year ago. Yes the price was good... as I thought I'd spend $900 to $1k for an SS system.

The term "serious-tail" exhaust... I've discovered it is only a verbage reference to the 5" chrome tip. I'm sorry if I've caused any one to think that this is a "New Style" exhaust system from Banks. I spoke with Joe at Banks on Monday Aug 19th he assures me it's the same system just a new retail price hitting the street.

William

I installed the 4" SS system about a year and a half ago, MINUS the muffler. :D Sounds awesome, and saving the $200 on a muffler was an added bonus!

Hey Evan!

Been almost a year sence I was at your shop and yes this was my first real money spent doing the exhaust. I wish I had known I could have opted to go with out the muffler. It sounds ok but the straight 3" factory without the muff was louder, I had run this way almost 10k before I put this Banks on. Now I want to lose the muff just BECAUSE you chimed in on this! Darn it I should have called you first. :(

I wonder if I could buy just the SS extension and remove the Dynaflo?

Anyone wanna buy a Dynaflo with only 180 miles on it?

William

Wtburke,
The problem with the Banks system, whatever they're calling it this month, is the muffler itself. It's poorly designed, and while some people are having no big complaints, others, especially those with the long wheelbase quadcabs are encountering this noise problem.
I wish I was close enough to someone with the Cummins long wheelbase who maintains they -don't- have any noise problem, I would love to ride in it just to see for myself.
Like John, I would opt for the Magna-Flow on a second go-round.
Thankyou for taking those measurements for me, I appreciate it.
Monday AM I'm having the 14 MF put on ahead of the DynaFlow unit to see if it quiets it down. If not, then I'll install the 30" MF in place of the Dynaflow. I'm so tired of dealing with this issue I could puke. :{

William! Good to hear from you again...

Yeah, you can buy the extension kit and put it in place of the muffler. You'll need to get one end of it swedged, but thats an easy thing for most muffler shops. :D

We've had many customers ask about my truck right after I pull in every morning... *LOL* They hear me go through 4 gears, use the exhaust brake, and then idle for a minute or two. They just gotta have it! :D We've even made up a standard task in our work order system for doing a Banks exhaust without a muffler. Seems to be growing in popularity...

RK, the drone problem is pretty bad on some trucks. We have had a couple of Duramaxes do the same thing. In most cases, my truck without the muffler is QUIETER inside the cab than the ones with a muffler... Go figure... Anyways, there are lots of good aftermarket stainless steel mufflers & resonators to go with the rest of the Banks system. IMHO, the Banks muffler is not nearly as good as the others.

Drone.... I have it.

I have had the aforementioned exhaust for almost two years. Mine drones horribly or at least used to. Now that I am thinking about it..... I haven't heard it for some time. Must finally be used to it. I paid over 850 smackers.

Pjames, I did install the Banks 4"SS exhaust system last Monday however, I'm not aware of a 4" elbo? If you are referring to the 4" down pipe just behind the turbo then yes... it's a full 4" system from turbo to tail.
