The factory batteries lasted 2 years and 17 days. I was expecting longer life from these newer trucks. The dealer that warrantied them said that 2 years is about normal in this climate. Do you all think the thermal covers help or hinder in hot climates?

Well, they have a 2 year unlimited miles warranty. So they had yours timed pretty well.

I was lucky to get almost 4 years out of mine.
I live in Maimi, FL. The batteries die very suddenly here. I think the hot weather along with the insulating covers makes them go fast. One of mine was leaking from the terminals which may have been from getting hot. All my towing has also been in hot weather.

I grew up in Illinois. And noticed the batteries tend to go (wear out) more gradually in cold weather. They go more suddenly in hot weather.

I wish there was a way to get a notification of impending battery failure before it happens. Like a low voltage during cranking notice.

Man, my 07 batteries lasted 8 years

Just got six years out of a pair of Optimas in my 06 and replaced with the same. Parts store garbage batteries failed every two years like clockwork in my wife's Jeep. I got tired of playing the warranty game with the store and put an Optima in hers too. I just had to replace hers after 4 years. Not bad for the heat we live in.

I know there are some here that dislike the Optima's but I have run them for a very long time and they have never let me down.

That reminds me of the old AC Delco batteries that had the green light on top suggesting it was healthy. All I learned from that was that the "green eye lies".

Battery in our 2013 Ford Escape is over 5 years old, and the batteries in my 2014 Ram going on 4 years old, they are all still going strong. Crazy the difference in battery life .

I always thought is was the cold weather that was hard on batteries. Seems extreme weather either way is tough on batteries

Seven yrs here and they lived a few more in a 12v.

If your batteries show signs of dampness on top you need to clean them off and check the connections. When acid seeps onto the top of the batteries it is conductive all the way across and will sap the batteries over time and probably prevent correct charging voltage. bg
