Bilstein has introduced a new shock for 8800 lb. GVWR Rams with 1 to 3 inches of lift. This is a 5100 series shock and the part # for the fronts is BE5-6681. I waited most of the summer for this shock to hit the market so I could install the D25 levelling springs. I installed the standard Bilstein BE5-2550 shocks on the rear.

Fit and finish are flawless and the ride is dramatically improved. Like many folks before me have reported, I can't believe how poor the stock units had become. I did several things during this project: springs, shocks, and DT track bar. Needless to say my steering response has dramatically improved and I can't point to just the new shocks, but they are very fine products nonetheless. I drove about 12 to 14 hours during the past weekend over various road surfaces and can't report one thing about the driving experience that wasn't improved. I would've liked to do these BOMBs one at a time to see what made the biggest difference, but couldn't justify the price of 3 or 4 alignments just for curiosity sake.

I was talking with the good folks at Rickson early in the summer about the levelling project and this is where I learned the shocks were in the works. I was very happy with the service and prices I received from Rickson. I tried to talk them into a demo set of 19. 5" wheels with no luck. Otherwise they are a top notch group to deal with.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try those shocks next. I did the Rancho 9000's first and then the D25's. The shocks made a big difference in ride quality as far as smoothing out the hard jolting but the D25's made an even bigger difference. They really improved the overall handling quite a bit. I'm not happy with the Rancho's anymore though. I think they are worn out now and the adjusters quit working a while ago. They are frozen solid. The shocks have 35K miles on them now and maybe that's all they should last. The adjusters should have lasted longer than they did though. Did you get the shocks from Rickson?

Thanks,

Dave
