I always do a bypass oil filter on important engines as well as installing engine alarms(see related post), and I looked high and low under the hood of our 2001 for a suitable place to mount our Amsoil unit. Old TDR threads had suggestions as well as a good article in one of the Register back issues. Folks have mounted them to the front crossmember and to the Starboard side battery holdowns from 2X4s and whatever to make a bracket. These ideas were good ones but I wanted to avoid visible underhood clutter and the crossmember location put the filter too low for my taste since I'm often in deep snow here in WY. I think my location is a tidy and accessible one. I mounted the AMSOIL filter holder to a piece of 1/4" angle alluminum and then mounted this under the starboard(passenger) side horn which is itself mounted to the wheelhouse extension below the battery. The unit sits in front of the plastic fender liner and is protected behind the front bumper. It was necessary to shim the filter assembly away from the wheelhouse extension to avoid some bolt housings and to give a bit of clearance to the hoses and fittings. I pulled the oil input off the 1/8" plug on top of the Cummins oil filter using a steel "T". The return line goes through the oil filler cap. The hoses are well secured against chafe. I used a steel "T"(no brass please. . tooo weak!) because I also added a low oil pressure alarm to the other port of the "T". I think this location is perhaps too tight for the Dual ByPass unit but not having it, I'm not sure. Hope this helps you clean oil lovers out there.
