Hey EB! How about a towing/driving report?

I picked up my cab and chassis late this afternoon, haven't had time to do much more than just drive it around and feel it out some. One thing for sure, the Aisin transmission feels much different than the 47 or 48re. It is a lot smoother and the exhaust brake is something else. It will take some getting used to after driving the six speed stick for the past 345,000 miles, but I believe I be able to handle it. I haven't put the trailer behind it yet so I really can't say how it pulls. I might pull the trailer around empty some this weekend just to check that out but I can't put a load on it until I get it leased on next Tues. (good old rules and regs) I'll continue to drive my old one until I get that done.

A couple of things I noticed, there is no horn alarm when you back up with the door open, at least it didn't do it the one time I tried it. There is a sway bar on the rear axle, there hasn't been one on the 3rd gen trucks until now. It's possible that both of these things are going to be on the cab and chassis only. It doesn't turn as sharply as my 03 does, could be the different wheel base, my cab and chassis has the 167" wheel base or it could be the solid front axle just won't do it. The ride is as good if not better than my 03, again probably due to the longer wheel base. I'll miss the pockets in my sun visor, they aren't on this truck, of course the radio controls are different, I'll get used to them, one other thing, the lights seem to be much better than on my 03. I guess that's about all I can say at this point, I haven't driven it but about 15 miles but that will change pretty quick.

DOESN'T TURN AS WELL AS THE 03!!!!!!. Are you kidding? My 03 turns like a pregnant whale as it is and you think the CC might be worse?

Keep us updated, definitely want to know how the aisin handles towing...

Shawn

Congrats on the new truck!

Others have commented how the truck doesn't feel like it's accelerating very hard, but a look at the gauges confirms that it is. Do you get this feeling too? Is this because the transmission shifts so smooth?

Your truck is a quad cab 4x4, my 03 is a single cab 2 wheel drive with rack and pinion, there is a lot of difference.

The transmission is very smooth, as far as how it feels when it is accelerating, it has me pulled back pretty hard in the seat. It feels like it is accelerating pretty good to me.

I'll try to get some pictures taken today, and if I can figure out how to post them, I'll do it. Klenger if you can tell me how to do that, I'll try.

Great news, now if we could only get some more of these trucks here in New England. Out of something like 15 dealers in this area only two have gotten a chassis cab and both are 4x4 reg cab ST's with the manuals nothing close to what I want. EB I would love to see some pics, so figure out how to post them.

Went on a little short run in my old truck and spent the rest of the day taking things out of my old truck and putting them in the new truck. (CB, Brakesmart controller, fire extinguisher, reflective tape ect. ) My old steps will need some modification, the frame is bigger on the C&C. One other thing I discovered, the Aisin transmission has a drain plug in the pan. Won't be taking a bath in transmission fluid at change time. I drove it around some more and played with the exhaust brake. In the tow haul mode that thing will shut you down in a hurry. I don't know what it sounds like outside the cab, it kinda rumbles inside the cab, but it will make people turn their head to see what is making that sound. Probably without the muffler it would make some noise, I'll leave that to someone else to straight pipe one of these things, I go through to many weigh stations.

Do they both people with straight exhaust down there? Never had an issue with the Mack up here. Been in IL, IA and SD with before. Not an issue before. I just roll on the throttle with that one in town, or at the scales. The KW isn't straight piped, yet. ;) Hope to be soon. :D

Congrats on the new rig. :D

Naw, its not the sound, its the emmissions they will probably start checking now. I'm going to leave it alone.

You haven't driven a Ford Super Dooty, or GM HD truck. Those trucks can't turn. Our 4x4 DRW, 4-door Dodge turns on a dime compared to any of the other "big three".

My Ram turns tighter than my Ford (which is a reg cab truck). Go figure.

Didn't really think so. Never had a problem when I was down in San Antonio in Feb. for a week.

If I had a C&C, I'd look at the following for a 5th wheel toter:

But that's just me.....

Hey Rusty, where can I buy that bed, thats just what I need when I startup my new HVAC company. I want to buy the new C&C but only ST's reg cab with G56's in the area, I want more luxury and 4X4 DRW. I want the flat bed for future new 5vr I will buy and be able to use it for service as well. Who is the manufacture of that bed?

That's a B&W Elite series towing bed. You can find them and their other beds (and other products) at http://www.turnoverball.com

Rusty
Thanks Rusty, I have E-mailed them for more info. , the configuration on the bed is just awesome, that will look nice on my new truck when I can get a better C&C with the options I want that my Dealer.
