Tapping high beam feed on a 2014?

I was just doing some research for the RAM website and found out that you can now view both cameras through the 8.4" screen. I did not think that RAM would ever do this. I only thought that you had to look in the rear view mirror for the bed area. I guess you learn something new every day. This almost makes me want to go and look at one just for the camera.

I recently test drove a late production '14 3500 DRW. The in bed camera view was on the 8.4 screen and the back-up camera view was on the rear view mirror.

I was told by one of the RAM guys last year that this feature was in the works, they were not happy with the monitor in the rear view mirror and were awaiting software that could handle two inputs, even considered a split screen. Looks like they might be making progress.

I would want to see it in action before plunking down any cash being a conservative Mainer and all...

Mike.

I hope this is true and can be flashed to a 13. I was contemplating pulling things apart and swapping the camera cables to see if that would switch screens (and unfortunately buttons) because I would rather have the better detail backing up than when hooking up the fifth wheel.

I hate the cameras. Should be swapped. Bed in the rear view mirror and the back up in the 8.4. I back up a lot more than hook up a trailer. Wonder if I could swap the inputs. If this software update comes out hopefully everyones can be updated.

I'm hoping it is true. I know I saw that the in bed camera is avail to see in the 8.4 screen. Did not see anything about the backup camera. I could be wrong though.

If you get the backup camera but not the cargo camera, it is viewed on the 8.4 nav screen. It is probably my favorite option on the truck.......

Sam

I want the cargo/ in bed camera to aid loading my slide in truck camper. With the extra cab length going from a quad cab to a full crew cab almost all of the truck bed is invisible from the driver's seat. I too would prefer both cameras to be on the 8.4 screen with the ability to toggle between them. A backup camera would be useless once the camper is loaded since the tailgate is removed.

Bill

I'm probably going to be flamed here for saying this, but I like the backup camera in the rearview for normal driving. It sticks well to my normal methods of using all of my mirrors and ensuring I keep a watch out around the peripheral of the truck. If I had such a large display of a distraction for just backing up, I might not notice a car coming from the side or something. A split screen that includes the cargo cam and the rearview would be nice though. I'd also like to be able to flip the rear view camera on at will rather than just in reverse. It would help for quickly assessing parking situations when you can pull forward all the way through two parking spaces to see how far back your rear end is and make sure it isn't hanging over the space behind.

I definitely agree there should be an option to configure it though. Preferences are preferences and I can't disagree with someone elses driving habits as long as they are safe and work.

Reading my window sticker (2014), says if you have auto wipers and auto dimming high beams the bed view camera is not a option.

I will make sure to remember this when I am ready for a new truck. I don't think I need auto wipers and high beams.

Yep, I think I'm still capable of turning on the wipers and know when the switch from high beam to low beam headlights... two less items for the computer to mess up.:-laf

Agreed......:) Auto wipers and dimming is sort of lame.......I turned that off the day I drove it off the lot. I drove several trucks when looking and didn't care for the little image in the rear view mirror, too hard to see for my old eyeballs. Plus a big bright picture of the what's in the bed made no sense for me.

Auto high beam dim is pretty cool. Its not rained in my first month of ownership, so don't know about auto wipers yet. If you do want it all, there's a company that developed a jailbreak and you can have like four cameras if you want. Youtube "uconnect jailbreak". I believe the company is in Sweden. Might be something to consider after warranty runs out. I'm not going to consider screwing with the delicate electronics myself.

I did not think the bed camera would be important to me but, the extra length prevents my being able to see the goose neck ball when I am using the GN. Since the truck I bought had the option I now feel I would have been disappointed if I did not have the option.

I have to agree with the bed camera 100%. Just the other day I finally road tested the MS to see how the truck would do towing it. Let's just say it was not fun as the PB did not work half the time. Thank God I have the Maxbrake on the truck. I did not feel safe towing that huge of a load. Pacbrake works all the time when I am unloaded with no load on at all.
