There was a new Chevy Pickup with the 8. 1 liter/498CID I didn't get the HP on this but must be quite a bit more than that of the Cummins???

I doubt it was that new, that engine hasn't been used in PU's for some time now. AFAIK, the biggest gasser is the 6. 0 Vortec. I had several customers who had them, they seemed to like them except for their voracious appetite for gas. They also had the 5-speed Allison and the big AAM axle.

I think it was actually a 496 in the pickups and a 502 in the motorhomes. It might still be used in the motorhomes?

It was called a Workhorse chassis and was sold to Navistar several years ago and Workhorse is all diesel powered chassis now.

Many of the big blocks advertised more hp than the diesels did in their glory days. But hook em up to a 12k trailer on a steep grade and those hp numbers suddenly didnt mean as much. Torque is the dominating factor in horsepower, I think we can all attest to that.
