Had new clutch installed per the TSB to get rid of rattle noise.

On the way home, I noticed my clutch pedal is REAL easy to push in. It used to take some effort, and I thought it was normal since it was a heavy duty truck after all. Now it pushes in very easy, and I'm not sure it's normal... ? I like it, it seems "sporty-er", but should it be this soft?

Also, it seems to shudder when doing an idling take-off from 1st or 2nd. It really shudders while idling in Reverse. Never used to do this.

Of course I'm taking back in tomorrow for them to look at it, but has anyone else noticed this after doing the clutch recall? Any ideas as to where to point them? In teh past, they've needed pointing... :(

Duck:

Had mine done yesterday. I haven't noticed the clutch pressure being different, but the shudder is terrible! Let us know what you find out.

They replaced the disk in mine several weeks ago. It is quite now and it does not have a shudder. But the transmission is still noisy when you are idleing in 1 or 2. They said till they get a TSB on it it is normal. It is not that bad but I notice it. I know the engine is quiter-but.

I took it back to them, they say that the TSB was only for the disc, not the pressure plate or fly wheel, so it probably just needs to break in. I'll keep an eye on it the next week or so and see what happens.

Also I guess the "easy" clutch pedal is normal, and the way it used to be was abnormal (heavy clutch pedal).

So, I'll wait and see.

I a have not had the TSB done but when my truck was new it had a fair amount of shutter. After a few thousand miles it went completely away.

A few thousand? Yikes. I'm giving it a few hundred before I drive it right through their gorilla balloon out front. :D

I'll keep you posted.

Mine (built 5/21) has a light clutch, and a small amount of shudder. Not a whole lot, but it may be decreasing with miles (1600 now). I test drove one in March that had the "neutral noise" and it's clutch was heavier, and seemed to have more shudder pulling out from a start in 1st or 2nd.

Why do I read these thing the DAY I drop the truck off to get a new clutch put in! :(

Guess I will report back Thursday if mine is doing it.

Might get it back tonight. Nothing like 2 dozen donuts to get your truck fixed quickly. :D

Finally get to report back. They ordered the wrong parts so I ended up getting the truck back today. I was falling in love with the Neon they gave me though. :-laf Well, it was nice parking it at the movies! LOL

Same deal with mine. The clutch is TWICE as easy to push in. Releases about an inch or so closer to the floor. Man did that catch me off guard pulling out of the lot this morning before I had my coffee! No more rattle and it's smooth as silk. For stop and go traffic I think it's going to be kinda nice.

Mine is going in on the 23rd for the clutch, alternator bracket, and a new passenger mirror(vibration). Hope it turns out as good as MattSt's. Mine didn't start to clatter until it had 1000 miles on it and now has 4000 and is still just as bad. We'll see how it goes.

Well, the good news first. After driving with the new clutch disc for a week, the shudder is not as bad as it was. The really bad news is, the clatter is back again! It sounds just like it did when I took it in for the TSB.

I hate to admit it, but yesterday was the first time I have towed with mine since I got it done. My buddies 36 foot travel trailer. 12,000 #'s (Cause his new Ford is broke down, didn't even make it 1000 miles LOL)

Rattle is back, or um still there. Same rpm range. So i'm thinking it's either not the clutch and it's the motor or they just can't fix it.

Oh well. It's not that loud, just going to turn up the radio. At least I got a free clutch after 13,000 miles. :D

Should be getting mine done on Wednesday. I don't know if it will make any difference, but the mechanic is really good and I don't see that it can hurt anything. Free take, why wait ;)?

Dean:

Boy i'd think twice ( no make that three times ). I've got the new disc, and still have the rattle. My mechanic said he has written a report to DC about mine, and thinks they will have to replace the entire clutch assembly. He showed me the disc, and it looked like the springs had chatter marks on one of them. Maybe it's not just a loose spring rattleing!

Rattle Gone!

I just got the clutch tsb done and the rattle is gone :D Oo. . There is no difference in the operation of the clutch and I am one happy guy, that rattle drove me nuts. I am really fortunate to have a great mechanic and service manager at my dealership, they really care about customer satisfaction and the mechanical work they do is beyond reproach, and I am pretty fussy.

Had mine done todayOo. all clatter gone. Just the sweet sound of the CTD now. I got to look at the old clutch disc and the springs were fairly loose in their "slots". Now let's see if the clatter comes back:{ ,hope not.
