48RE does not like 2nd gear on light throttle

No Back up Lights w/NV5600

My clutch slipped yesterday. It's a south bend single mass with about 70k on it. I pull a horse trailer that weighs 13k. So my question is, should I repair the one I have, if I can, or go for a bit stronger clutch. What would you recommend for a new product? I don't remember which SB I installed but it was a bit stronger than stock, cost around $1100 seven years ago.

Thanks

I suggest if it gave you good service that you stick with the same thing. Otherwise a call to South Bend would be helpful. They have new products and can address any mods you made or describe heavier pedal when choosing a replacement. Pulling the clutch will let you know if the flywheel has hot spots aka trash or not. IMO hot spots don't machine out and return quickly. If you are time limited order the complete kit as flywheel cost isn't high vs. pulling the trans labor. DIY with time to wait for parts is different.

I have done almost exactly what you have suggested. I called SB and the ordered a replacement from TD and set up an apointment with my mechanic. He'll do the labor and check the flywheel and have it resurfaced before installing the kit. SB said anything heavier than what I have will give me no slip and be all go.

Thanks for the advice.
