Personally, I believe the reporter didn't listen to what he was hearing.
#1 6. 1 Liter is only 70 thousands over , why bother?
#2 The Cummins ISB already produces 600 lbs tourque out of the crate, but defuels at 2600RPM.
#3 If the same engine defuels at 2850 RPM, as it does in our '03 5. 9's, then it is 325 HP.
#4 The ISB already uses a VGT Turbo, which gives better low end boost by changing angle and volume, and is required for EGR. Both of which are headed for the TD.
#5 EGR isn't as bad as everyone thinks, yet
#6 EGR, as I have seen it, will be a fuel filter sized cannister with an electrically or boost/bleed operated EGR Valve that opens under low boost, high temp conditions, the kinds we avoid with large and VGT turbos anyway, and bleeds some exhaust through a radiator cooled cannister, that is then mixed in with the intake air to reduce oxygen and therefore combustion temps and therefore NOx without mixing Urea into the exhaust, platinum into the fuel, or using a catylyst.
#7 I think it will give more, not less, opportunity for Bombing, and will be very easily defeated.
#8 The ansswer to #1, why go 70 thousandths over, because 6. 1 is bigger than Fords 6. 0
