Was just told by my local cummins rep that the new part number for my oil pressure sender is 4088390 (had asked for 3408428). Is this correct (my truck's sender has a 3 pin electrical connector). He had to order it and it will be here in 2-3 days.
Does the truck have both a oil sender (to the gauge), and a pressure switch (to an idiot light on dash)?
Back ground: Yesterday I started my truck (2000, 53K miles) and drove about a half a block when I noticede ding dong bell and saw the "check gauges" light. I then noticed my fuel pressure gauge was stuck at zero. I pulled over imediately and checked oil level and for leaks, both were ok. Drove back to my house, pulled the connector and cleaned the terminals, no change, still stuck at zero. oil pressure at the gauge.
Drove the truck around the block, seems ok, (didn't sound any different, ie. thought if I really had low pressure, I would start hearing valve/rocker noise) my westach oil temp gauge is reading the same way it did before the guage failure (a constant ten deg lower than coolant).
Decided to take the truck into the stealer to have then change the sensor out, and when I called in to make an appointment that the sendert wasn't covered under the 100K power train warranty (the 3/30 has long expired).
So decided the change it out myself, using the cummings part number.
