I would have done a write up but it would of ended up way too long. Its simple and straight forward. I bought my dash from The dealership for 622! Fitment was absolutely perfect. This dash is made by a different manufacturer than original and it is also made out of better thicker material. Heres the pics!

Just getting started

I took several picture of where wiring was. I opted to pull the main harness off of the back of the metal tube on the dash because of the aftermarket alarm system (which i promptly cut out during reinstall due to the shibby job of the alarm shop.

Point of no return!!! This would be a good time for blend door fix's as well as a good wipe down and blow out of the HVAC system... Of course i didnt fix my blend doors:doh:

This really wasnt that bad of a job despite what everyone says. No special tools needed, Just take stuff off and putting it back on is all your doing. I will be happy to answer any questions and if your local I can help you (will work for beer). I decided not to go with a cover lay for the simple fact that your not fixing the problem only putting a bandaid on it. The little pieces under the cover still break off rattle, can cause electrical problems including airbag issues and FIREHAZARDS! Trust me this job looks alot worse than it really is. The electrical plugs only plug into one place so there is no need to worry about messing up your wiring. If your thinking about doing this then..... DO IT!!! DONT GET THE COVERLAY!

Great job. One day soon, you should do a complete DIY write up. I'm sure others for years to come would be very appreciative.

I would do a write up if someone local needs help doing it. I would take more pictures. Im afraid if i did a write up now i would miss too many critical points. Its actually very straight forward.

I did pull the dash out and do it on the bench. Look at pic #3. The reason why i left the wiring is because of an aftermarket alarm/remote start that was in the truck. I did that instead of removing all of the connections that were going through the fire wall. It was quicker for me to do it this way. of course when it was all said and done i ended up cutting out the rats nest of an alarm that the alarm shop had in. Truck now has factory keyless entry as of yesterday.

JRoyster,

Congratulations. You did an impressive job. If you would write it up with photos it should be featured in a TDR article. Many members have older Dodges with cracked dash covers or ugly holes where things have been previously installed that would probably love to do the same replacement.

Prarie Dog: The color seems slightly off not bad at all. Its a tad bit lighter but not enough to notice unless your looking at it. Im very impressed with it myself.

FDrake: It took about 4 hours with basic hand tools. The only power tool i used was my screw gun. I highly recommend one even a el-cheapo like mine. There are a ton of small phillips/hex hed screws you need to remove. Infact thats what you remove most of.

HBarlow: Who would i submit the write up to? I dont have a whole lot of pictures from this job but i suppose i could remove dash and do it again just for write up reasons (and to get the screw driver i dropped down the defrost vent. I am planning on doing a dash replacement on my mom's 2nd gen dually. I wonder if they would rather feature a 3rd gen or 2nd gen dash replacement. Who would i submit it to?

Send it to Robert Patton, Editor and Publisher of the TDR Magazine. I imagine he would like to receive either your second gen and/or third gen write up with photos to publish in the magazine in order to encourage/help other members.

If you need help or have questions, send me a Private Message.

JRoyster,

Bill provided the info you need above.

Write up a description of each step with a photo if you have them while it is all fresh in your mind. It doesn't have to be too fancy, just describe the steps you performed. Provide enough explanation or detail to make it clear to a reader what should be done. I think your article would be something Robert Patton would be very interested in publishing in the next TDR magazine.
