I bought a 98 4X4 with a bad rear end(see other thread. . ) I've got a bad axel, so I was going to stick it in 4wd and just use the front end to drive it up on the trailer. Well it wouldn't work!! When you lift the rear of the truck up I can get the good rear axel to spin, and I'm not heraing any grinding noises like something came apart. It doesn't have manuel hubs, so is this one of those systems where the front wheels have to do a full turn in order to lock the hubs? I guess I could have a bad acctauter as well. I'm just hoping the T-case is OK.

you do need to rotate - I suggest

you push her a few feet, put in low range and take it easy - it should work fine - but try and have a straight shot up the trailer. I assume you have the driveshaft disconnected. I had to drive a 2500 67 Jeep pickup about 30 miles, in polish front wheel drive - because the u-joint broke.

SLinse,

Your truck uses a center-axle disconnect on the front axle to shift into 4WD. It's much more likely that this is the culprit rather than the transfer case.

The disconnect is actuated by vacuum and is a bit complicated. Some TDR members have switched the system over to a manual shift using kits. You can find these kits if you do some searching on this web site.

Good luck with the new diesel.
