New Dodge owner

I've ordered a 2014 3500 SLT BigHorn SRW 6. 7 3. 42 CC LB and read in one of Dodge's brochures that for 2014 they have an "auto disconnect" for the front axle on 4x4's. I asked my dealer but they didn't have a clue. Anyone have any idea what this is? It stated that it would increase MPG by 1.



I did own Ford's for the last 14 years, a 1999 SD 7. 3 and a 2005 SD 6. 0. The 7. 3 was great not so with the 6. 0. Lots of problems.

Don't quote me on it, but I think it has to do with being able to back up a trailer on long steep driveways, maybe. It sounds close to the kits that are available. I'm sure someone will chime in soon. Dave make sure you fill out your Signature so we know where you are from.

I just couldn't figure out exactly what this was, the "auto disconnect feature".

Another question; Will my ScanGauge work on this truck? I read that the computer is locked and my scangauge will allow me to clear a code, so on this truck maybe that won't work.

They are referring to being able to unlock the front hubs. I thought it was a new feature for MY13 but I could be wrong I haven't followed the new trucks very closely. Previously, (at least since 94) Ram had automatic front hubs meaning the front axles always turned regardless of whether you were in 2wheel drive or 4. With the ability to "disconnect" the front axle shafts, there is less drive train drag which will help increase the fuel mileage, not to mention less wear and tear on the front end. It is a great feature and one they never should have gotten away from since the 1st gen days.
