I had Chip's Trans in Tennessee DTT my 48re a few months back. All I can say is WOW. It's like having a completely different truck. The tighter T/C makes the truck drive so much better, even at stock power. It's impressive how much stock power these newer trucks have when it can actually get to the ground. It's equally amazing how crappy the stock trans is. The T/C is perfectly matched to my tires and gearing. And, of course, it shift very nice. However, I am having a few annoying issues.

1. I get an intermittent CEL. T/C solenoid performance or something. Phil at Chip's said that is a common problem they are having in the newer trucks and haven't working it out yet. He's been talking to Bill about it. He also said that it seems to only be on trucks that have used the Smarty, even if back to stock. Anybody else have this?

2. I never had a problem with the 1-2 hunting. It did it a few times, but not a problem. Phil said that they use the Shift Enhancer on all the 06 and up trucks. I haven't had any 1-2 hunting since the re-build but I do have some 2-3 hunting now. It's worse in the "tow" mode on the enhancer. Phil told me it was doing this when I picked it up and they adjusted it the best they could. It's not bad but I'd be nice to get rid of it. Any thoughts?

My buddy's '05 truck throws a CEL code sometimes with the DTT. It did it long before he ever installed his Smarty. Now he just clears it and looks forward to it popping up infrequently.

Mine thrown the P1740 code also after my BD T/C & V/B install. The rpm's don't drop as much as the stocker t/c. So the truck thinks the t/c is slipping (in a nutshell). Some trucks don't get that code, but seems hit and miss. I cleared mine a few times before it stopped coming back.

For the shift hunting. I take it they (installer) messed w/ the V/B for the 2-3 hunt. ?. ? You may have to purchase the DTT Shift Enhancer for shifting like the builder recommended.

I have the Enhancer. They put it on as part of the install. It was installed before they every drove it to set it up. I thought it was supposed to help with hunting. It really doesn't "hunt" as much as it will shift 2-3 then if you back of the throttle, it shifts back into 2nd rather abruptly. Sometimes it'll go back and forth. I can live with it but I'd rather not.

the p1740 code is a problem with a tight TC. not sure if there is absolute cure for it. I opted for a looser TC to negate it.

the 2-3 hunt is just the nature of the beast. I have better luck with enhancer turned to higher settings so it probably needs a reflash to help it.

I had the CEL because of the "tight" TC but I'll live with it showing up intermittently because I am a fan of the tightness of my new TC. After so many key cycles, it usually goes away.

I had the same issue around the 28-30 mph range if driving slow. I called Bill at DTT and he told me that these transmissions have a 2nd gear lock up. Thats probably what your feeling. Nothing to be concerned about.

Well it seems I'm not alone. I guess it's just the nature of the beast.

I'm definitely not feeling the 2nd gear lock up. It's a 3-2 shift that will sometimes go back and forth. But it's still better than the 47re being in 3rd gear at 12 mph with a 89% TC.

I ask for the 89% TC because that seemed to work well with the 01. But they make every convertor custom (to some degree) for each customer. I run 315s with 3. 73 rear end and this convertor seems a little looser that the 89% 47re convertor. It is perfectly match to the truck. It's not doggy at all from a standing start with stock power. The 01 is a little sluggish from a standing start with stock injectors. I really like this convertor.

Mine are completely stock.

Gear shift lever on "2" is only way to feel 2nd gear TC lockup and it's barely noticeable.

In "Drive", O/D OFF, TC lockup in 3rd also barely noticeable.

In "Drive" Tow/Haul ON, downshifting steep grades is only situation where 2nd and 3rd TC lockup occurance clearly noticeable.
