I ordered a full DTT transmission and converter on friday, cant wait for it to come in so i can install it. Oo. :)

a few questions i have been wondering... .

how much you think i can tow with it (trailer weight)

can i tow in overdrive?

if anyone has any answers that would be great

Thanks

Daniel

you can pull all you want. I have pulled a 30k bus before. It took 35 psi to hold 60 mph. If you are driving over 50 mph you can use overdrive. EGT's will be a problem before the trans is stressed.

1. As much as you want

2. Yes, I'd keep your RPM's above 1650rpm so are not lugging the engine and running high egts as said above.

:) I have the DTT transmission on my 95 and I tow in OD locked up all the time. Just watch the egt guage and when it gets too high I have to lock out OD and the rpms go up but the egts drop almost emediatly. I find if I can keep the RPMs around 1850 or better no problem.

PS. Your gonna love that transmission. :D

If I am not confused, I think the 95's still use the 47RH.

Unfortunately, they have a tendency to shift into OD early when under light throttle. That can cause some grief when towing because it wants to shift into lockup shortly thereafter which leaves you at around 1200 to 1500 rpm. Which is not good.

You can either keep it out of OD manually until you get to about 1800 or, as I do, keep the TC unlocked until vehicle speed is over 50 mph.

I was able to get the normal throttle OD shift point on my truck up into the 50 mph range by adjusting the TPS.

Light throttle OD shifts moved up near 40 mph but that still leaves too low rpm when the TC locks. So I keep it unlocked for around town and two lane road travel.

If you got the heavy duty input shaft, you can also use an exhaust brake. His VB keeps the TC locked up when you come off the throttle all the way down to about 1100 rpm.

This eliminates the need to manually lock the TC to use the exhaust brake.

The nice thing about having a DTT transmission is that Bill is willing to help if you have any problems.

My 3. 54 gears don't help much either. If I was going to be towing a lot, I would try to swap for 4. 10's.
