Called the "SNOKING Special" I have S/N 4748000 of a new DTT Smart Controller for the 47RE that does not shift lock to lock when on. Ran up today and installed it, road tested and adjusted it and then Bill road tested it. S/N 001, 002 and such are in the pipeline.
It provides a momentary unlock of the Torque Converter durning the shifts, similar to his 48RE controller. I think I am going to like it. Makes driving around with the Smart Controller on similar to having it off shift wise, except when you let up on the throttle the Converter stays locked, as that is what the Smart Controller is all about anyway. Last Friday we tried to put a 48RE controller on SNOKING, however it would not lock up second gear. So now there is a new product available. I will be using the exhaust brake a lot more just tooting around, as I do not have the harsh lock to lock shifts anymore when the controller is on.
One thing that it did not fix is the harsh manual shift from second to third that I created under light throttle. However talking to Bill and riding around in my truck, I learned I bit more about it. When you drop manually into 2nd with the controller on, then accelerate past the speed set point for the Smart Controller to become active, and then make a manual shift, it is still a lock to lock shift. Again dropping manually into 2nd activates 2nd gear and lockup via the micro switch on the linkage, if you have reach the speed point set for controller activation for 3rd and 4 gear activation and then the shift is a lock to lock shift. Under light throttle these can be harst shifts. Solution is to raise the speed set point for the box to come active. Now that I know more about it, and have time to think about it some, I may just leave it alone.
